Matthew Chapter 2 recounts Mary, Joseph and Jesus fleeing to Egypt to avoid Herod's slaughtering of the firstborn sons.
However, the refugees crossing our border today are experiencing no such thing.

Jesus and His family went back to where they came from.
The Holy Family went to Egypt which had a large Jewish community in the Alexandria area. They would have been welcomed there and able to be financially independent as they had the gifts brought by the wise men. They certainly did not sneak across the Nile and demand free medical care and food stamps.

Jesus may have been a refugee, but that doesn’t mean refugees are Jesus.

Jesus was a Capricorn, He ate organic food
He believed in love and peace, and never wore no shoes
Long hair, beard and sandals, and a funky bunch of friends
Reckon they’ll just nail Him up if He comes down again
'Cause everybody's gotta have somebody to look down on
Who they can feel better than, any time they please
Someone doin' somethin' dirty, decent folks can frown on
You can't find nobody else, then help yourself to me
ETA: Owed to Kris Kristofferson
And frick your refugees. Shitter’s full, Clark.

just found it highly-entertaining that so many purported Christians were completely unaware that Jesus and his family were (briefly) political refugees in Egypt.
A majority but not all purported Christians on this site are ignorant of scripture, especially of the parts of scripture not focused on in Bible study groups or in church during services/mass. I used to be one of them myself not long ago. I’m sure they’ll downvote this post rather than picking up a Bible

Also, read a book probably 30 years called The Fifth Gospel which was the Book of Thomas. It was part of the Jesus Seminar (largely made up of Catholic priests from around the world) where they went through the red letter editions of the Bible and with beads voted on whether the red letter verses attributed to Jesus were, definitely said it, might have said it, probably didn't say it and definitely did not say it.

It was probably more like 75% not aware of the flee to Egypt story of Matthew in a thread of almost identical subject line about 2 weeks ago. A contributing factor could be the only other gospel with a nativity story, Luke, conflicts with Matthew and makes no mention of a flight from Herod to Egypt but says Jesus was born after Herod already died (during the time of Quirinius). First gospel (Mark) and last (John) don’t have the refugee story or nativity story because they preserve the earlier beliefs of the great archangel Christ being pre-existent and descending the heavens in a fabricated body of flesh, and have Jesus starting his time on earth in the body of an adult.

Comparing Jesus to a drug cartel funded operation is insulting
It is indeed. What is interesting though is the parallels between organized religions and organized crime / cartels. Given that all three are human inventions they are identical in many aspects. The idea of Jesus as a prophet is about as admirable an undertaking as ever evolved in the mind of man, actions like the catholic church turning a blind eye to the holocaust because it was eliminating the competition is disgusting.

Is Jorge from Guatemala, who slithers across the border to do roofing work in west Texas a "political refugee"?
