Hard to know for sure, since His name was first written in Greek, which had a completely different set of sounds and written letters from Aramaic.

Greek speakers were trying to write a name comprised of some sounds not found in their language, using letters which did not correspond to those sounds.

Rather like trying to write "manana" from Spanish, in English. We don't have the "enye" sound (first "n," pronounced like a combination of "n" and "y"), and we don't have a letter to WRITE that sound.

All of this is correct.

It is. The language evolution is amazing stuff. And we only have it because some ancient civilizations developed writing.

"Jesus was a Capricorn
He ate organic food
He believed in peace and love
And lived the Golden Rule

Long hair, beard and sandals
And a funky bunch of friends
Guess they'd prob'ly nail Him up
If He came down again"

First Kristofferson, chapter 1
Verses 1-2

Matthew 2:13-15

Does not apply to the circumstances depicted in the advertisement. In that case, First, Mary was pregnant. Secondly, they were going to Bethlehem to pay their annual taxes. They were fleeing nothing. The ad intentionally misrepresents scripture. It ain't wise to mock God.

Everybody (on both sides) who talks about Jesus loves to pick and choose, depending on whatever their agenda is.

Evangelicals, non believers, and everyone in between.

I'm surprised the amount of down votes you received for this comment. Although, I don't agree that everybody does this, it is the wrong way to interpret Scripture. Going into the Bible to find something to support your belief is the wrong way to go into God's Word. Going in with humbleness in His Spirit and guidance and asking what He is saying to you, drawing from His Word is a better way, without putting a humanly agenda on the table. Politicizing it by either side is not helpful and may not be received as well as the person misusing it might hope.

It wouldn't be a surprise when you find out the poster thinks Jesus would be a rainbow flying trannie.

I see. I took the comment at face value without knowing the poster's history.

None of them were named Jesus. Yehoshua would have been a common name.

Actually, it was for a census. Joseph, being of the House of David, had to go to Bethlehem.

They took a census to make sure everyone was paying taxes.

Could have done that anywhere. Census was reason they had to travel to Bethlehem.

It was probably more like 2027 to 2028. Years ago. Through my research, he was likely born late summer early Fall, 4 BC.
