He can’t very well interfere and make it go away. He’d face open revolt.

When you are in the process of telling everyone that the hard drive is "Russian disinformation", you probably don't make a big deal about getting the drive back. Besides, there were copies made (and distributed too?) before the original was given to the FBI - so there was really no way for them to contain it. Also, the computer repair contract gave hunter so many days after completion of the repair to pick up the computer and pay the bill or the ownership would go to the computer repair store to pay for the parts and labor. It legally belonged to the computer repair store.

When the Feds raided Giuliani's apartment last year, they took any electronic device but the Hard Drive. He even told them, "that's Hunter's hard drive." and they didn't care to get it. They were after Rudy, not Hunter. Our Fed's at work.
