That was the first thing I thought of.

There are hundreds of examples of people appealing to religious phrases in good and bad ways.

Yes, and there is nothing wrong with explaining how each one is being used in the bad ways.

Addressing that is much more efficient than individually addressing each person using each phrase in the bad way, and that's what JP is doing.

But to drone on and on and to even write an entire paper about it, and to monetize the subject, comes off as grifty and unnecessarily starting a fight.

Only to snowflakes who project any criticism of the use of Christianity as some attack on all Christians and the "pure" forms of the religion.

You ignore this and no one cares.

I think that the growing factions mis-using it disagree, and that's the real target (and not the phrase itself).

Christians just cannot separate these things easily and it's always fascinated me since I was a boy at Catholic school in Bible trivia who knew all the answers in 1st grade (I had a melt at a competition once when an 8th grader overruled me and I was right, but I was like 7 so it's OK).

"
that's tamala harris word salad level BS!"

I literally was thinking the same thing. Five whole minutes of listening to that diatribe would made me want to put a bullet in my brainpan.

Harris is a poser. He's not remotely intellectually curious.

Better get used to it because it will ring throughout eternity.

Philippians 2

9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Yep. Leaves Canada which is in horrible shape and decides to come south of the border and lecture Americans. Should stay and fix your own shithole country first. I don’t know if this guy claims to be a Christian but I listened to Richard Dawkins try to pin him down for an hour whether he believed in the virgin birth. Peterson deflected and obfuscated the entire time. Couldn’t get a straight answer out of him.

Great point, well articulated and laid out.

Tens of millions of us, through Grace, know that Christ is King. Let us pray that all non-believers be granted that Grace.

It's not really a subject for meaningful, worldly debate.

I’m Catholic and to the right of Mussolini. He is 100% right. The phrase itself is innately true. But it’s bandied about right now by grifters and dipshits using it as a troll phrase. So inherently it’s taking God’s name in vain, and for malevolent reasons.

Then call out THE man.

When you call out a common phrase that has been used for thousands of years in a general sense you come off as someone trying to censor speech and painting the phrase as a pejorative so some gullible people will appeal to their inner politeness and will discontinue using the term "Christ is King" in social circles.

spot on

Slow flow would rather censor the term

Correct.

The people who value the phrase earnestly the most should be the ones fighting on his side the hardest, IMHO.

What?

Nowhere did I say ANYTHING close to this

Why be dishonest? Why structure your entire point on intentionally lying like that?

Can you elucidate the malevolent reasons?

Maybe just a couple of examples of how Christ is King is being used to hurt someone or some people.

Christ is the Eternal and Final King of the Davidic Kingdom. It's clear from Psalm 110 that this is so. King David said that God's revelation to "my master (Christ)" - "Sit at my right your foes I will put beneath your feet".

And in the same Psalm, Christ is designated as a Priest as well as a King.

"The Lord has sworn an oath he will not change.
“You are a priest for ever,
a priest like Melchizedek of old.”

Of course, Christ isn't mentioned by name in this Old Testament Psalm, but the Psalm refers to Christ as King, who is David's Master, by order of God.

There is something warped about thinking that "Christ is King" can be a pejorative.

Anything can be a pejorative in certain contexts with the right motivations.

I'm an atheist. If I start running around shouting Christ is king to Muslims and Jews just to stir up Christians to create religious friction would that be the proper use of such a phrase?

I’m convinced most of y’all didn’t actually watch the video.

Either that or have poor comprehension abilities.
