As a reminder, the words "school" and "education" appear nowhere in the text of the U.S. Constitution or any of its amendments.

All the United States was able to accomplish in the ~200 years without a federal department of education was:

1. Build the greatest industrial and economic engine the world has ever known,

2. Win 2 World Wars,

3. Harness the atom, and

4. Go to the fricking Moon

Since the establishment of the federal department of education?

*ahem*, a "less" impressive resume, for sure

Those tests weren’t administered during the Trump administration. Hard for the current Ed Secretary to take credit for them.

Now, please tell us how this relates to the Education Secretary going on a "best practices" tour to discover what is actually working and what has been actually working?

Damn straight. Cade is my cousin. I grew up going to our family reunions at his parents place. Very smart, very practical man who grew up in an excellent, grounded, conservative, God-fearing family. I am extremely glad that he is making improvements in our state and getting some recognition. He is a good one.

We shouldn't be funding her travels for anything. The only thing she should be working on is gutting the DoE and getting it ready to be killed by way of Congressional legislation.

No argument here, but I'd say they've already gutted a lot of it.

That’s probably the least objectionable part of their curriculum.

Right, but forfeiting entire days of learning to have students guess the words by looking at pictures in the book is beyond egregious.

Sounds like she was giving Louisiana the praise and credit for it.

Which will mean absolutely nothing if the DoE is still a thing at the end of Trump's term. Also, the gutting they've done has gone along with a whole bunch of Fed involvement/meddling in education at pretty much every level.

The Dept of Ed administers millions of student loans every semester. What is Trump’s plan for student loans if the agency that administers them disappears? What would happen to all the existing loans?

Cool. Roll it into the Dept. of Treasury.

See above, and use your brain.

It should be dismantled.

Accountability is why this program works.

That isn’t his problem.

The federal government should not be involved in this. In reality, they have made a large swath of society debt slaves for decisions that they thought were good ones at the time. They chose poorly, but if the federal programs didn’t exist, then they wouldn’t be in debt.

Administered by the treasury.

The Department of Education brings nothing positive to the table.
