Some of us (ahem) are already actively working towards this idea, via our own personal time and treasure.
—————

Texas is a nation with a distinct culture, economy and government.
We believe that the people of Texas, by every definition, constitute a separate and distinct people – a nation. In the early days of the Texas Republic, people who were part of this nation were called Texians. We continue that tradition today be referring to ourselves as Texians.

Texas should always be politically, culturally, and economically independent.
We believe that, as a nation, the people of Texas deserve the basic and fundamental right of self-government in all affairs of our nation. This means rejecting all external entanglements that prevent us from independently making decisions that affect our governance, culture, and economy.

The basic political building block of Texas is the individual.
Texas was founded on a spirit of rugged individualism. That spirit carries through into our political life. We believe that at the heart of every political decision is the individual. Article 1 Section 2 of the Texas Constitution declares that all political power is inherent in the people, and “the people” consists of individual people.

The basic economic building block of Texas is the entrepreneur.
We believe that the economic engine of Texas is the individual entrepreneur. The Texas entrepreneur, unencumbered by market restrictions is the driving force behind the strength of the Texas economy. It is this philosophy that has taken Texas to one of the largest economies in the world and, fully realized, can take us even higher.

The basic cultural building block of Texas is the family.
We believe that the primary conduit for the continuation of our culture and traditions is the family. Strong families strengthen the culture of our nation and, thereby, our nation itself.

Texians are defenders of natural rights.
We believe that the nation of Texas was borne out of the struggle to preserve the inherent rights of the people. It is the duty of every Texian to continually struggle for the preservation of these rights.

Texas adheres to the values of fortitude, loyalty, righteousness, prudence, and broadmindedness.
Originally suggested as the meaning of each of the points of the star on the Texas flag by Adina de Zavala, we believe that these are the five traits fundamental to the character of Texians.

Texas Nationalism is the primary secular cause of all Texians and is distinct and superior to all other secular causes.
We believe that Texas Nationalism extends into a realm that transcends the current understanding of politics and also reaches into our culture and our economy. As a worldview, it represents a system of thought that connects politics, culture, and economics and can solve issues within all three.

The interests of Texas supersede the interests of all other nations and states.
We believe that the people of Texas are only served when the interests of our nation are placed above and before the interests of other nations, countries, and political and economic unions. This is best embodied in the phrase, “Texas first!”

The power to determine Texas destiny is solely in the hands of the Texan people.
We believe that the only people that have the right to determine the destiny of Texas are the people of Texas and the people of Texas alone.

Texas' unique history serves as the foundation for our current and future greatness.
We believe that the history of our people is fundamental to our identity and serves to inform and inspire us. We learn lessons from our history, to glory and revel in it when it is good and to use it as a cautionary tale to avoid repeating past mistakes.

There is no challenge that cannot be overcome by the individual initiative and collective will of Texians.
We believe that there are no problems that face Texas, either collectively or individually, that cannot be solved by Texians. Texas has been known throughout its history for overcoming long odds to achieve great things. We never quit and we work until we win.

Big10, Big East and Pac-12 with UMass as an Independant - would be their own country.

SEC, Big12, ACC with BYU, Notre Dame and Army as Independants - would be their own country.

Pass. Democrats would completely destroy their side within a couple decades. They will then demand that the Republican side give them aid. Before you know it, dems will sneak over to the Republican side.. then the nonstop race baiting and division will start all over again.

I think a better deal would be to ship all democrats to the uninhabitable parts of northern Canada. That way, dems can leech off of Canada.

* Trademarks.

* Patents.

* What currency will be used, and backed by what collateral?

* Who will be responsible for stuff PROMISED TO THE PEOPLE. In other words, okay Alabama, secede. What are your people who are on Socia Security going to say when their checks stop coming? Oh wait, they wont stop coming> You are going to pay for them how exactly>

* Who will be the border police for you SINCE ALABAMA AND LOUISIANA AND KENTUCKY AND GEORGIA AND ETC AND ETC HAVE NO IMMIGRATION COPS of their own. What cops will you get to be "illegal catchers" in your utopian Louisiana and Alabama and whatnot?

* Tariffs? Kind of funny that so many on this board ARE ANTI NAFTA. So what kind of trade deal should we sign with New Jersey? None? Really? Who will all those Volkswagen Cars being made in Alavama be sold to? The people of Ecuador?

^ Who will cover air civil defense?

* Pensions for military?

What we need is an Article 5 Convention of the States to go to Washington and send the power back to the States by clarifying and updating the Constitution. It's never happened before and it is a long over due process that is needed

I won’t hijack this thread with my own personal cause.
But the organization with which I’m actively involved—The Texas Nationalist Movement—fields these same questions daily.
And each has a very “doable” answer.

I’m personally not remotely interested in splitting from the US with other states.
Rather, I want my home returned to its previous status of independent nation.

Many of us call ourselves that. Texans. Tejanos. Texians. Texicans.
They all work.

Independent republic.

Many Texans are bilingual and biliterate.
But sure, I think it’s fair to say a good one-third speak a language other than English at home (I don’t have any numbers on that; Google probably does).

Out of curiosity what issues are important enough to warrant splitting up the country?

Sure, because it is the intolerant right that makes a habit of shouting down opposition and banning speakers they don't agree with.

This is an intriguing idea - if you come up with the right formula.
