What has your HOA done that is outside their authority of enforcing the CC&Rs *you* agreed to when you purchased the property?
It's not my fault you obviously didn't pay a bit of attention to what you were signing.
You act like the people running the HOA never get caught up in mission creep or abuse their authority. You're a fool if you think that doesn't happen.

I've never lived anywhere with an HOA. Why do people need to join the HOA? I don't understand how someone has to just for buying a house somewhere.
In the times where we are legit talking about getting rid of property taxes because it means we don't ever own our homes, I find it odd there are places where an HOA has as much power as it does. Essentially they determine who the house can be sold too. Ie house is on the market for a year and someone is interested and ready to pull the trigger, but decides against it because they heard the HOA is a bit heavy handed.

A sovcit doesn't argue that the police act ouside the constitution. A sovcit doesn't even believe they are subject to the laws of the nation whether within, or outside the constitution.
Oppose the OP but at least be on point.

That wasn't even a meeting where they were voting on the board members. That was a normal meeting where residents got pissed about dues increases.
Do you even have a fricking clue how a HOA works?
Wait, don't answer that. You obviously don't.

Some people want to live in a neighborhood with amenities…like a community pool, playground, greenspace, security guard or gates. Thus, an HOA is necessary to manage the maintenance of those things.
Condos are a whole different animal because the HOA is responsible for all building exterior maintenance too.
If your buyer’s realtor was worth their 3% commission, they’d have provided you a copy of the HOA’s by-laws and regulations before you submitted an offer to buy a house in an HOA neighborhood so you’d know what you were getting into. And info on shitty HOA’s isn’t hard to find these days if you know how to do a basic search online because aggrieved residents love to air their complaints on Facebook.

So if someone moves to a new town, city, state then they shouldn't be allowed to try and change things they don't like?
Oh, and you must really hate Trump, Elon, and DOGE since they are actively wanting to shutdown down institutions and change things.
The HOA seems to be a sacred cow to you all.

And even ignoring amenities, HOA prevents people from doing trashy things to their house that affects everyone else’s property value. Like not allowing people to paint the outside of their house neon green, restricting use for rental property or airbnb, keeping people from parking boats and trailers in front of their house all the time, making sure lawns and gardens are being kept up. Maybe those issues don’t matter to you, but if you have trashy neighbors that do those kinds of things then its going to hurt the value if you ever try to sell.

I mean without our HOA who’s going to keep all the common areas upkept, all the common areas mowed & weeded, entranceway flowerbeds changed out seasonally, the pool kept up, club house kept clean, walking trails kept up, seasonal decorations everywhere, etc.

My city has public nuisance ordinances that doesn't allow trashy yards anywhere. So much for your intellectually lazy argument.

In theory, you could probably get the HOA disbanded through a legal process that would be a pain in the arse…after having a majority of the property owners in the neighborhood to vote to disband the HOA. But if the neighborhood had a bunch of greenspace or amenities, then good luck because the local government isn’t going to want to assume responsibility for cutting that grass and keeping up the community property if there wasn’t an HOA anymore
Posted on 3/8/25 at 10:55 pm to Passing Wind
You give it to the local municipality. There are HOAs that have been disbanded and they did just that.
Posted on 3/8/25 at 10:55 pm to Dex Morgan

I’ve never heard of city code enforcement writing tickets for gardens full of dead plants and overgrown with weeds or a bunch of other aesthetically unpleasing issues as long as it doesn’t create a safety issue and the house isn’t blighted

Even if your local government did agree to it, now your private community pool is open to everyone in the general public and your neighborhood will be overrun with people from the surrounding area coming to use the pool that belongs to the city now.
Its not as easy as you make it out to be
Posted on 3/8/25 at 11:06 pm to Tiger Prawn
Exactly on all points. All cities have ordinance laws, but no one’s coming clean the pool, and fix things when they break. He’s an assclown. I didn’t move into here for a public pool either

I don’t think MOST people have a problem with that, it’s the self-important turds that want to look in your backyard to make sure that your pool is the correct shape, and that your shed that no one can see is made of predetermined acceptable material, or what kind of shutters you’re installing.
I think a lot of you are being purposely obtuse.
Overreaching HOA’s aren’t rare. Corrupt HOA’s aren’t rare. Shitty people gravitate to these positions.

I don’t think MOST people
Edit: also, will the ordinance be paying all the gas & electric bills for the common areas, front entrance, landscape lighting, clubhouse and pool? I may be moving if so
