It's because of demographics, not degeneration.

- Public education system.
- Parents who want to be friends instead of parents.
- These mobile devices that bring the world to our fingertips at any moment in time we want.
In the old days, “the boob tube” (TV) was thought to be the culprit behind an eventual great brain drain. I guess the advantage, as it were, back in those days was that people could and did walk away from the TV for significant periods of time and actually interact in the world.

showing up in standardized test scores for at least 50 years. This isn't a recent development.

Standardized tests have been dumbed down too, and Gen Z is even dumber than what all of us think.

They weren’t getting any favors from our education system. And then Covid nailed the door shut.

True, but kids are now dumber across the board. It's more insidious than just one group dragging the averages down.

I wonder if people take into account how being overweight can impact cognitive function.

The generation that woke teachers let out of school to protest, are told there are infinite genders, had gifted and advanced placement classes pulled because it hurts other students' feelings, where some schools do not give failing grades, where everyone that is not assigned victim status is made to feel bad and apologize to the assigned victims, where the only geography they learn is "stolen land", etc, is dumber than previous generations?
I'll be damned.
I'll be damned.

Exactly. Many kids entering college today can’t do elementary-level math. It’s a problem across the board.

Correct. All the people trying to imply this is because of some racial component are as ignorant as the Leftists pretending nothing wrong is going on.

This is absolutely the main reason, but no one with a mainstream platform will be allowed to notice or say it.
Screen time/ social media is second.

These kids have encoding issues with the way they learn today. The way your brain works is the more difficult it is to seek information and learn something, the more likely you are to retain it and apply that knowledge. It is technically called "deep encoding". With so much of the learning process automated and spoon-fed to students these days, the heavy lifting that past generations had to do to learn things is lost. The more arduous process of learning something, it becomes much more reinforced and retained.
