Honestly at this point, if we pull out I think Israel will nuke them themselves.
And what if that doesn't work?

just checking back to see if you are more educated now that Power has explained the manner in which Iran could bring the world economy to its knees due to their iron grip on the strait (I think)?

If we can get venezuela producing and exporting how they can the straight will become mute.
We should have waited till that was booming before we hit.
Other nations will do what they need to do to bypass the straight.
We fricked up by not taking its value off the table first.
Still, at this point it is what it is.
We should have a permanent block on iranian exports. Land and sea.
Let venezuela develop along with other export options in the region. Then, with that in place, open it back up and let them starve for pennies on the dollar.

otherwise the USA will completely obliterate the Iranian coast (up to 30 miles inland) along the entire Strait and level Kharg Island.
No extensions.
No counteroffers.
Take it or leave it.
Not very good for relationships with countries getting oil from them. Many on here will say we don't need them but we need a working relationship with the modern west

If Iran can maintain control of the strait for an extended period of time
This is what it all comes down to. Will the world allow them to dictate the flow of world trade through the Strait?

The level of stupidity and lack of even a novice understanding of current global geopolitics and capabilities is staggering... but not surprising.

Seems like all we have been bombing is mostly things on the coast. There can't be much left there to obliterate. What we need to do is start bombing infrastructure and other military installations deep inside Iran.

You clearly aren’t folllwing what’s happening then because we have been hitting sites on the far side of the country which include military bases and infrastructure.

It’s almost like SFP isn’t really gone when we have powerbottom still.

you are presuming we had that kind of time.
which, while understandable goes with any number of other presumptions that nah-sayers to this operation make (not saying you are one, I don't know).
I prefer to believe
1) we were acting on the intel of the 2 best groups in the world when it comes to intel and
2) leaders lead. They make the toughest most pressing decisions first and deal with the outcomes next.
3) our leaders were acting in the best interest of the country (collectively)

I think us hitting iran was long overdue. As someone who got hit by an EFP and lost friends to both iranian devices and snipers I want them to suffer.
I do think we had a way to put on easy mode and rushed it.
Could I be wrong? Of course. Im not in the intel loop anymore.
Its just an outside observation.

what do you think?
will the world allow itself to be brought to its knees by Iran? and by Iran I mean Iran in its newly minted current (and getting worse) state?
and by the world I include the US and China

The bigger concern i have here is that they are still keeping the dog on a leash.
Cut us loose and let us do the job.
Too many political games (as always since the 1940s) and no will to get the job done from the political class.

valid concern. to some degree it falls into that same category of who do you trust to cook? but again, that all falls under the category of "either you believe we needed to act when we did or your don't".
I was mostly just differing with you on the timing. And because I believe in a perfect world you are correct on the timing (get Ven right first) I believe there's a reason smart people who know that's true....... determined they couldn't afford to.
thanks for the exchange.

sorry I didn't see this first.
I understand how you feel. More people in this room should have an understanding of your first hand experience.
we both could be wrong. none of us here are in the intel loop, including those who like to pretend they are. I appreciate the opporunity to share viewpoints.

The world matters little here. Iran is in a very convenient geopolitical position as they can project power to their near neighbors. Generally whatever polity has ruled the Iranian plateau has dominated several areas we think of as distinct, from South and Central Asia to the West Asian corridor to Asia Minor and through the peninsula to Egypt. That they can compete in several areas is also aided by their relative population versus the smaller Arab states. The natural check on their power projection is generally Turkey, as their western border is still shaped by the Treaty of Zuhab in 1639. Or in other words, whatever power controls Asia Minor can project power equally as well.

This has been a massive miscalculation.
Complications with Iran and their ability to interrupt the SOH, have been known for over 20 years!
I see people claiming that Trump is playing 4d chess here but clearly that’s not the case. This isn’t even checkers.
Some just struggle to see reality. We didn’t see obliterate Iran’s nuclear capability in June 2025 like we were told and we didn’t assess this situation correctly back in March of 2026.
