Israeli Soldiers Breaking The Silence

Former Israeli paratrooper Avner Gvaryahu, now an activist with Breaking The Silence explains to Green Left Weekly's Peter Boyle how 850 former Israeli soldiers have given testimony about the gross injustices against the Palestinian people they have witnessed and made to participate in as part of Israel's military occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. He was visiting Australia to promote the book "Our Harsh Logic" (Scribe Publications).

This is a fascinating video. Obviously this man's body language reveal that he is highly stressed by the issues he is addressing. I think there is something very important that he knows and understands but is not saying: There is no reasonable, moral, civilized solution to this problem. He has given no solution because there is none. The current situation, immoral as it is, is likely close to the "best" solution possible when all issues and circumstances surrounding this situation are taken into consideration.

Maybe he is uncomfortable because he knows he is full of shite and is nervous he will be discovered as a liar.

Dude that filmed this can't grasp that Israel is NOT the United States. He quotes "by the people, for the people" as if they should be following it. That is in our Constitution and not theirs. Also easy to sit behind a video camera and talk about ideas. Let the Cartels in Mexico start shooting rockets across the border into ElPaso with the assistance of the Mexican Government and see how long it takes us to roll down there.
People fail to grasp that these guys have been going at it for thousands of years. I love how every US President acts as if getting them to shake hands on the West Lawn is going to solve the problem. Screw all of them. Let them kill each other and leave us alone.

I don't think there are any good guys over there because the whole thing is being driven by a belief in a Bronze Age religion. Take away the religious differences and you quit pouring fuel on the fire. Until these people evolve consciously past war, hate and demonization of "The Other", nothing will change fundamentally over there.
