Is this DeSantis/Trump thing contrived to anyone else?

Is anyone really that motivated against one or the other? Most of us would be fine with either as President. I’d prefer Ron to win the primaries because he appears to be more electable but even that may be a stretch today. Is this rivalry for folks to feel alive after 5 years of losing? I don’t get it.

NO ... Trump and the Always Trumpers and PACs pushing DISinformation out and spreading lies have turned this into what it is.

I really don't want another chaotic Trump presidency if at all possible.

DeSantis seems pretty light in the loafers to me but I think he could be more effective as a President at least legislatively.

I'd prefer somebody with a real background in economics but we don't get those type of folks as president.

Seems like a small group of people on both sides.

Perhaps if the word "cultits" and other insults were left out, then I'd agree.

Eh I'll play, it matters to me and I'm motivated. That said, I'm also fully prepared for the likelihood of Trump getting the nomination. And I'll very likely vote Trump if he wins. I can't envision a realistic situation where I wouldn't.

Everyone knows I don't particularly love or respect Trump, but my motivation isn't angst at Trump or what he would bring. Trump getting reelected would be a massive improvement over the status quo and would provide a bunch of ancillary benefits - seeing the libs melt most of all.

Rather, it's annoyance at the prospect of having the most substantive conservative of my lifetime in a good position and at a key cultural moment and leaving him on the bench. And I'm happy to caveat that with the idea that DeSantis could disappoint, compromise too much, etc., even though I think those claims by the Trump loyalists are pretty dishonest.

Yes it's contrived..the people spending the money whispered in Ron's ear that Trump was going down on 4 or 5 attempts to convict him. They talked him into thinking this is his moment...so they could have someone in office that will listen to them and follow through.

The big wigs donated to Trump and he took their money and let the phone ring, and they don't like not having that access. While they didn't contrive it to lose, that is what is going to happen.

Like many of us said weeks ago, if Ron runs, they will hammer each other with 100s of millions of dollars, and BOTH will lose enough votes because of resentment that NEITHER can beat an organized machine.

Ron should have waited, now we likely get Biden no matter what - unless the loser of the primary BEGS their followers to vote for the other (maybe not enough).

This shite right here, a daily dose of Trump people spamming this board with dumb bullshite is pushing me to find someone else. Along with Trump praising Disney, Cuomo, Newsome, and Crist is a turn off to vote for him. Dude needs to grow up.

You're one of those people that used to say every year, "If we just nominate X the Dems wont be able to claim he's *insert racist, dumb, elitist, uncaring etc*.

Guess what? They are going to do the same thing to DeSantis. They get away with it because they control the flow of information that shapes public perception. Doesn't matter who runs on the repub ticket. We live in clown world now and play by clown world rules. More chaos to come.

I don't think so. I think Trump tried to get DeSantis not to run, making his path easier. Trump and everyone else knows he would be the biggest threat.

But DeSantis has work to do. Everyone said last year that it would get ugly. And here we are

It’ll sort itself out in the end and I’ll vote for either. I’m really not bothered at all by anything said by either candidate.

Only bc he is an empty suit deep state puppet. He will surely be effective at passing their agenda and selling their wars that have hurt every day americans the last few years as well under Bush.

Neither DeSantis nor his supporters started this. Every single one of the most vocal Trump supporters here were praising DeSantis until Trump, for no reason at all, started attacking DeSantis. The most conservative governor any of them have ever seen.

The truth is, a large number of Trump’s supporters aren’t conservatives. They want the theatrics of Trump and not much else.

Agreed. They'll never admit it but their support for Trump is just for like you said the theatrics. So long as he keeps making the libs melt they'll excuse anything else he does.

I think it was Pettifogger that said they’re essentially WWE fans and he’s correct.

I mean I get all that. I just don’t think having people dig in is going to get us anywhere.

Why would I give a shite about that?

I want somebody with an attention span. Somebody who's not going to prematurely celebrate a healthcare victory after a House vote then fail to follow through getting votes in the Senate. Or somebody who claims to be focused on infrastructure and then gets legislation passed instead of dropping it so Dems pick it up under the next administration. Or somebody who doesn't abdicate leadership on a big issue like covid after he makes a gaffe, which directly led to him being defeated by a corpse. I'd like somebody who can actually set a plan and follow it.

An economist is a theorist. A business owner is someone with real background in economics. So I would say someone that built a billion dollar+ real estate/entertainment business fits the bill you are wanting.

Vivek would be another.
