Students should do more walks out, but be more random, and teachers should do more planned protests...

this will reduce the chance of shootings inside the school

Well I believe it is, and with the knowledge of the existence of total depravity we can take practical measures to help reduce a proclivity to sin (do harmful things to others) by taking defensive measures.

What are some of the things that can be done/changed realistically?

How about we call out dickheads like Jeff Zucker to stop flashing the shooters face across the screen glorifying him? If Anderson Cooper ran CNN, there’s no doubt this would be the policy. But Jeff Zucker prices ratings above all other things, and is thus ruining the country. He doesn’t give a shite about these kids lives. Unless the killer has not been apprehended, never show his name or face.

Practical measures don’t lead to change. As a devout Christian, you should know that.

Public hanging I'd say.

If we have clear, incontrovertible evidence within a month of the incident preferably.

Then you're an idiot. That would only make it worse and turn them into martyrs. They all know that doing this that the chances of being killed are very high, and this a-hole probably knows he's about to get the death penalty for doing this in Texas.

Keep in mind that I'm for this when it comes to the Broward Cowards since I think humiliation on cops would be effective, but not on the killers who are largely willing to die. You put 80 cameras in their face as they're hung, then a lot of losers will seek that type of death and go through with it. Cowardly cops on the other hand it says "you either storm in after that killer and die a hero, or we humiliate you for a good year and see you become the villain."

Wife sent me a article about kids and smart phones, we're working through how to keep our daughter off of phones and social media when all of her friends have one. The more I read it, the more in leaning toward the mental health angle on some of this. I still have questions like why should an 18 year with a still developing brain be allowed to own semi automatic weapons, but this is obviously a multiple solution problem.

It's a faith based site, desiringgod.org.

By far, the most concerning takeaway from Twenge’s research, and confirmed by others, is the spike in teen depression. Between 2012 and 2015 — in just three years — depression among boys rose 21%, and depression among girls rose 50%. These upticks are reflected in suicide rates. “After declining during the 1990s and stabilizing in the 2000s, the suicide rate for teens has risen again. Forty-six percent more 15- to 19-year-olds committed suicide in 2015 than in 2007, and two and a half times more 12- to 14-year-olds killed themselves” (Twenge, 110).

quote:

It is “the paradox of iGen: an optimism and self-confidence online that covers a deep vulnerability, even depression, in real life,” writes Twenge (102), going so far as to say, “It’s not an exaggeration to describe iGen as being on the brink of the worst mental-health crisis in decades. Much of this deterioration can be traced to their phones” (source).

Who is iGen? They are woke. They have ambient awareness. They appear confident online. They are never offline. Technology conveniently buffers and brokers their relationships. And technology feeds their loneliness and the toxic comparison that hollows meaning from their lives. Parents know most of this. They saw these problems long before we had books about iGen.

Another thing I learned is that "woke" is an actual term that people use, not just a running joke here

I pray that people say stuff like this out of an emotional response and for shock value. Don't actually believe this.

No idea. My opinion on truth doesn’t matter. You posted no stats so how would I know if it’s “true”.

And for this conversation I’ll go along with your rationale that murder is as defensible as negligence. Fine, I’m in. Therefore, I support disabling phones in cars (this legislation and technology exists today), and eliminating guns. You good with that?

Nope, I will support taking kids cars and phones.
Those aren't covered by The Constitution.
You think you want to eliminate guns?
I don't think you have the intestinal fortitude for what it will take to make that happen.
I know you don't.

Thoughts and prayers seem to be working so well, Republicans have decided to use more of those.

And nothing else.

Just like every other time.

Well start listing which gun control laws need to happen to eliminate mass shootings. I don't want to hear how if we can save one life bullshite either. If you can't pass a law that 100% eliminates mass shootings today and forever then thoughts and prayers is just as sufficient as what you would propose.

Im 100% against gun control or more of it. Just recently 7 kids were killed with a knife and 12 wounded. In China. So if you think gun control is the answer to be like other countries, well the proof is there. The shite does not work.

Thoughts and prayers are better than your liberal alternatives.

Only an idiot would think that would make them a martyr. Unless you think murder is a noble cause.

Death is not an abstract. That is very real.
