Saw somewhere there’s a renewed push to term limit all reps and senators. If each one got two 4 year terms (or something along that) would it cut down on swamp/lobbyist/bought politicians?

The longer these clowns sit in office, the easier they are to manipulate.

Limit reps to 5 terms and repeal the 17th amendment.

FIND OUT HOW YOUR LEGISLATOR RANKS ON OUR U.S. TERM LIMITS SCORECARD

JOHN KENNEDY Grade: B
Your legislator John Kennedy, has a B rating from U.S. Term Limits. While they have sponsored the U.S. Term Limits bill, they have refused to sign the U.S. Term Limits pledge. It is important for members to sign the pledge, otherwise they can’t be counted on to follow through when term limits reach a floor vote. You know how politicians are.

BILL CASSIDY Grade: C
Antonin Scalia once said “campaign promises are — by long democratic tradition — the least binding form of human commitment.” He must’ve had your legislator, Bill Cassidy, in mind. While running for office, Bill Cassidy signed the U.S. Term Limits pledge, promising to co-sponsor the U.S. Term Limits amendment for a three-term House limit and a two-term Senate limit. Unfortunately, Bill Cassidy has refused to honor the commitment to you and has not sponsored the Congressional Joint Resolution proposing a term limits amendment.

GARRET GRAVES Grade: F
Your legislator, Garret Graves, has a FAILING grade from U.S. Term Limits. Garret Graves refuses to listen to pro-term limits constituents and believes career politicians should be able to stay in office for life.

I am, but it needs to be a constitutional amendment.

Political office was meant to be a civic duty, not a career choice.

100% for limits

Almost had enough states on board for a convention of states during Jug Ears' second term, but it never came to fruition.

And they all claim they are 'serving' their constituents/country. How many leave office without increasing their net worth many times over?

Yes I'm for it, but it won't happen. Partly because people who get elected and support term limits end up resigning after a couple terms, so there's never going to be enough of them in office to actually pass it.

ETA: We'd need a constitutional convention of the states to make this happen.

Absolutely. Will help cure corruption, with new faces coming in all the time. I think some of these bastards stay in office until they are 127 years old in order to cover their asses. That and the money is too good.

Do you think Pelosi and McConnell are hanging around because they have a sense of civic duty?

Used to be against term limits...

But after seeing these old, feeble politicians with 30 or 40 years in office, now I am for it.

Yes as they don’t make things better for us

No as they get lifetime payments from us . Why vote a SOB out pay for his retirement then turn around and put another SOB in to do it all over again ?

Wish when they go in they got zero pay and no ability to cash in on their placement

Talking away the life long salary for serving two terms is what will beat the swamp.

That rule just blows my fricking mind

For a long time I argued we already had term limits and they were called elections. And technically, that's true. Any elected official can be voted out if enough people vote for the opposing candidate.*

But, I also recognize the inherent advantage that is built into the system set up by incumbents to make it virtually impossible for an outsider to unseat them. Likewise, I tend to agree that under no circumstances did The Founders want or expect there to be a full time, life long elected ruling class. So I've changed my tune and am in favor of them now.

But, even with term limits the bigger issue is likely life time bureaucrats in positions most people don't know exist that wield extraordinary power, and there's essentially no way to get rid of all of them so I'm not sure how big a dent term limits would actually make.

* This assumes free and fair elections, so...

yes, absolutely and it has already been started. Art. V of the US Constitution allows the states (without Congress) to call a convention to propose amendments. The Convention of States resolution calling for such a convention/amendments includes term limits, fiscal restrictions and other means of reducing the power and jurisdiction of the federal government. Louisiana and 14 other states have already passed this resolution and it expected more will join in 2021. NOTE: Congress does not control this process, it is run by the state legislatures. See LINK /
