Now include China. Do they think Trump blinked?

And does it really matter, on the global scale, what we do with Italy, Germany, or Estonia, if China remains where it is?

Instead of exploring if this is beneficial to Americans the conversation devolves into "my team"/"your team" and who scored last.

That depends on what he was gunning for. Bringing back manufacturing? Lowering existing tariffs? Attempting to shutdown the fentanyl trade? A giant frick you to China and realigning world trade? All of the above? Who in the hell knows?

I mean there is a wild card involved, the other countries. People can gauge their position, but no one knows. Therefore to imply Trump’s position was somehow concrete is over simplifying

Thinking that criticizing Trump puts someone on a "team" is faulty

Exactly right, great analogy

Arguing his position was not concrete makes it worse.

Exactly, the lack of understanding of how negotiations work by some posters here is shocking.

this only works if the goal was 10% across the board tariffs for 90 days and isolating China...and I mean at the outset, not today at noon, CST.

Trump was clear in that he wanted to negotiate with countries, not necessarily to have tariffs long term.

If he just wanted tariffs, he would not have asked them to come to the table.

This was just a way to leverage them into capitulating.

The people that blinked are the countries that have immediately come to him to work it out, which is pretty much everyone but China.

Now he gets to work deals that will most likely involve these countries helping Trump achieve better tariff deals with China(along with other measures)

Both sides will take both sides of this question no matter what.

If Trump gets enough nations to come to the table in the next 90 days for a win and after that only limited or targeted tariffs are in place, that is a huge win for him.

The tariff increases just happened. We are literally right in the middle of negotiations with just about everybody. Hes already got commitments for $5 trillion in new business (that means new jobs).

How in the world has he failed?

So if he did blink, that's actually good.

But he didn't blink, which is actually good.

Bahahaha.

Not even close. It works if you are trying to negotiate better trade deals with countries. Negotiations are never going to be a one-sided thing and Trump knows that better than most. Countries are starting to come to the negotiating table. In order for that process to be beneficial he is saying hey thanks for coming to the table here's what I'm willing to do for you. Trump has stated multiple times since the start of this thing that if countries are willing to negotiate he would be willing to ease up on tariffs.

Why would your score keeping ever have to be anything but determining are we overall better off now or before?

I'm not even trying to suggest you can make that particular call one way or the other at this point, I'm just trying to figure out why anything else in particular matters in these situations.

When you consider most of the same cast of characters take issue or argue against anything he does or says, no matter the topic, no matter the week, you’ll realize this is more about TDS than anything.
