US-based integrated aerospace and data analytics company released new images showing a new bridge having been constructed across the river Pripyat river in Belarus, near the Chernobyl nuclear power plant zone of alienation.

quote:

Established by the Soviet Armed Forces soon after the 1986 disaster, it initially existed as an area of 30 km (19 mi) radius from the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant designated for evacuation and placed under military control.

Recent satellite photos show that the Russian military is considering these radioactive lands as one of the options for an offensive into Ukraine, since this is the shortest distance to the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, and is not populated by a civilian.

quote:

This is understood by the official Kyiv, which previously kicked off a large-scale military exercise, where soldiers participated in a mock war scenario in areas of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster site.

That is a bold strategy Cotton. It is a shorter route to Kyiv, but it's also still radioactive. If the Ukrainian's slowed the Russians down by just a few hours it could kill thousands of Russian soldiers and fry electronics on Russian equipment.

Of course, it's probably just Russia doing exercises but the liberal western media will start freaking out soon.

Pripyat isn’t a great neighborhood but I don’t see them sprouting a third arm by spending a few hours there, provided they don’t go try on the firefighter’s clothes in the hospital basement.

They would be fine. Jeremy Wade caught the atomic assassin near there.

Atomic Assassin

quote:

Extreme angler Jeremy Wade was lured to Somyn Lake in the Ukraine by a mysterious underwater attack. The legendary Wels Catfish is found in ancient tales across Europe, and Jeremy is convinced that it is also responsible here. Jeremy is initially unable to catch a specimen, but he hears reports of further attacks, this time from the cooling pond of the Chernobyl nuclear reactors.

Jeremy is able to obtain special access to fish within the exclusion zone as officials believe that he may find invaluable evidence of mutation. Any more information would provide researchers with further insight into the affects of radiation. Scientists already know a little, and have seen some of the impacts. One expert shows Jeremy a Wels from Chernobyl with an extra lower jaw.

However, authorities demand that Jeremy agree to hand over the fish after it is caught. Otherwise, there would be no way to thoroughly analyze it. He is also only granted four days within the zone as any more would expose him to dangerous levels of radiation. He manages to catch many Zander, also known as "Pike Perch", but is unable to catch the enormous catfish. When the Zander don't attack, he finds little activity.

Due to an after Dark curfew, he isn't allowed to fish into the night, when sight predators like Zander would be less active, and Catfish are famous for their activity. On his final day, he moves to the pipes between the cooling pond and the famous reactor number four, which exploded nearly thirty years before this episode was filmed. Jeremy's first attempt results in a bite, but the fish escapes. He moves to another spot, and here he manages to bring in the radioactive catfish. Research would show that this specimen was sixteen times more radioactive than normal, and only one half of the average size of a Wels of its age.

It's more than just Pripyat. Pripyat is in a green zone. If Russia wanted to get to Kyiv by going through the Chernobyl exclusion zone then they would have to go through multiple red zones. Several hours there and it is fatal even if soldiers are wearing NBC suits.

I think the new imagery out shows that the pontoon bridge is no longer there. Who knows what they are up to. I do recall someone saying that Belarus has a military unit that can operate in the exclusion zone.

Chernobyl was almost 36 years ago.

How long will the area remain radioactive?

Nobody knows but Putin and all of us will die before it's safe.

quote:

Experts believe the areas around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant will remain uninhabitable for at least 20,000 years.

The figure 20,000 years apply to the area around the power plant itself.

Areas around the exclusion zone are thought to be uninhabitable for least 3,000 years according to some experts.

Might seem that way for someone as consumed with Russian propaganda as you are.

This was a few miles from the border on the Belarus side.

For the 100th time, the Soviet Union dissolved in 1990. There is no "Red" Army. There is however, a Russian army.

That’s a curious map.

Why would there be a gap to the NE, with heavier deposits farther NE, near Gomel?

It looks like the surface contamination was carried generally W, not east.
