He also had political opponents assassinated or committed to mental institutions. He had his own "intelligence apparatus" for spying on rivals and even his own employees. He wanted to place a tax on wealth so that no one could have more than $1 million.

He used the state's property tax system to systematically steal thousands upon thousands of acres of private land which he funneled to his family's own land corporation that leased it to oil and gas exploration companies and made a fortune. That's right, they stole entire homesteads and farms from families based on just a few cents in unpaid taxes, often based on an accounting error without ever notifying the families that they owed any money until they came to seize the land.

Lester Maddox

Nothing about the topic to add, It just made me sing this song.

Last night I saw Lester Maddox on a TV show
With some smart a** New York Jew
And the Jew laughed at Lester Maddox
And the audience laughed at Lester Maddox too
Well he may be a fool but he's our fool
If they think they're better than him they're wrong
So I went to the park and I took some paper along
And that's where I made this song

Made me think of this song too from same album.

There's a hundred thousand Frenchmen in New Orleans
In New Orleans there are Frenchmen everywhere
But your house could fall down
Your baby could drown
Wouldn't none of those Frenchmen care
Everybody gather 'round
Loosen up your suspenders
Hunker down on the ground
I'm a cracker
And you are too
But don't I take good care of you
Who built the highway to Baton Rouge?
Who put up the hospital and built you schools?
Who looks after shite-kickers like you?
The Kingfish do

Nah, he’s not even the worst in the history of LA. We had Huey Long, Edwin Edwards, and Kathleen Blanco, not to mention the physical presence (but certainly not mental attention) of Bobby Jindal.

I'll argue Edwin Edwards is the worst governor in the history of the south

I'd likely agree with that one. For all his evil communist shenanigans, Huey at least managed to get some needed infrastructure built and improved the state's education system tremendously. Edwin just used the state as a piggy bank and robbed its people blind, giving back next to nothing in return.

Had to pull the trigger. When a former grand wizard of the KKK manages to get 40% of the vote compared to you, that's all you need to know.

Yes. This guy is no where close to being the worse governor in the history of the south. Hell, I think Clinton would qualify more than JBE.

This just such “the ends justify the means” thought. Bottom line HPL was a tyrannical communist governor. Any” good” he did is far outweighed by the long term harm he has done to this state. He is the reason Louisiana is viewed as a Banana Republic within the US.

Almost forgot about that old boy.

I just watched the clip of him with Dick Cavett again just now....he just couldn't believe that a black football player and a New York City Jew were infinitely more intelligent than he was

After that I think ole Dick and Lester turned it into a work.

No it's a comparison between two evil corrupt shitbags.
Corrupt shitbag one steals from the people, tramples over property rights, but leaves behind important infrastructure that is vital to the economic success of the state for a century.
The other corrupt shitbag steals from the people, tramples over property rights, but builds nothing of consequence and allows the existing infrastructure to simply decay.

I think in comparing two corrupt tyrants, most would prefer the former to the latter.

George Wallace was a hell of a Governor. He is still beloved in Alabama.

Wallace was a little before my time, but I can assure you that he is not beloved here. He was on the wrong side of history in regards to segregation and that will always taint whatever else he did, right or wrong.

James Carville said Wallace was the best campaigner he's ever seen. Hell, they even elected his wife.

What are we judging on? If we're looking at corruption its Edwards. If were looking at sheer incompetence its probably Blanco.

JBE is terrible. But we all knew who we were getting when he won. So I'm not surprised he is doing what he has done and will continue to do. People couldn't get over Vitter's indiscretions and the State GOP is and has been a complete disaster of a dumpster fire. But, Jindal was just as bad or maybe worse.
