Is it time for a multiparty system in the US?

I feel as though 4 parties would fit in nicely.
1. Democratic Socialist Party (DSP): the far left faction of the Democratic Party splits off into their own party.
2. Democratic Party (D): the old school democrats, economically moderate, socially liberal (accepting of LGBT, etc)
3. Republican Party (R): the moderate Republicans, your John kacsich types. Socially this group would be moderately conservative, economically conservative
4. America First/People’s Party of America (AF/PPA): the populist party for the furthest right of society, trump republicans that are more isolationist.
Color schemes for the map:
Red: republican
Blue: democrat
Yellow: democratic socialist
Green: America First/people’s party of America
How do you all think this would work? Does it make sense? Or is the two party, big tent system best?

As long as we make option 4's color scheme pink.

We’ve needed a viable third party for some time...

More concern, this time with dilution as the underlying scheme.
How much are you getting paid for this nonsense?...

it will still be 1-3 vs 4

Why would it be time for a multiparty system when dems already struggle to produce a decent candidate? Seems like that’s the main issue here. Produce better candidates.

I'd settle for two real parties at this point.

it would really be helpful if you people had even a 5th grade civics level understanding of our system of government and why we have two major party's. you wouldn't have to start these idiotic threads every day.
here's a hint jethro, these hypothetical parties are still going to have to form a coalition and elect a speaker of the house.

A viable party outside the current two will never happen in our lifetimes. Maybe ever.
The two parties have ensured that.
It would require, at the very least, very rich donors, to even approach the kind of budget to make a legitimate campaign. Very rich people are already emboldened to one of the other two parties.
And the Ds and Rs will collude to take down any third party candidate.

quote:Yes but it would still keep both other parties in check and force them to maintain more moderate positions on just about everything if a viable 3rd party could get enough candidates elected to prevent any one party from holding a majority on their own.

That's a great way to move the country farther left.
Two leftist parties, one pusilanimous center right party and one populist party that isn't really conservative.
No thanks.

It would revert to a two party system after a couple of elections were decided by the House.
First-past-the-post systems and single member districts all but ensure a two party reality in this country (or anywhere else, though some foreign countries go the coalition route). To the extent a third party moves in, it either merges with or kills off one of the existing parties.

It’s time for 2 different countries

No. It will only further muddy the waters of corruption.
I have stated for years that Libertarians need to get their people into the Republican party if they want to change the system, because trying to be that third party candidate will never gain any ground and will further empower the left to be in control.
We are seeing a revolution in the Republican party now due to this very thing happening. Rand, Cruz, Trump, etc are changing the party away from the establishment cucks that have run it, and they are bringing in new voters with a better overall platform. It is a long game fight though, which is something that we will win, since we know the Old R's are reactionary pussies who do not know how to play the long game.
Hate on AOC and "The Squad" all you want (I do), but they are doing the same thing with the D's. THIS is how you change the system and break the establishment up.
Sure the IDEA of a multiparty system is great, but the reality is that it doesn't fix any of this. Plus the only way it actually happens is for voters to fully abandon the current two parties and start voting these other ones more. It also requires actually decent candidates from these other parties, not some schmucks who are just trying to get some exposure to add to their coin purses.

It just seems like the further apart the parties go, it leaves out a huge part of the voter base. Some of us aren’t very far right or left.

I feel it’s time for a no-party system in the US. A person runs off their singular ideas. The idea of voting based on part is insane if you really think about it.
Posted on 9/10/20 at 9:09 am to clhawkins19
Just remove the D's and R's from the ballots and force people to actually inform themselves about the individual candidates.

The lesson from Ross Perot was if you want to elect a Democrat with little or no opposition, fight for more than 2 parties. All it will do is officially make it impossible for a Republican/conservative to ever win again.

75% of the country feels this way. That is why nothing ever actually happens in Washington.
Just talk during election cycles.
