DEI has made white people question the successes and failures of blacks and Latinos. Whether they graduate, flunk out, get a great job, or become unemployed, in the minds of many it all points to DEI.
In this case, we don't have enough information. I've known VERY smart people that flunked out of elite schools. Some were genius at math and physics but had no aptitude and even less interest for anything else. But let that be a black or Hispanic and people will whisper that they never really belonged.

JPL is on Caltech's campus. They have lots of students interning/assisting with relatively minor tasks. I don't know how it works but you see them when they have their annual open house. They're not all rocket scientists, at least not yet!
Also it appears that he received that internship as a freshman and we don't know what his GPA was then.

Would it be over 50% without DEI? If so, that's some serious harm.

Very unlikely that Asians could total 50% if DEI were eliminated. Black and Hispanic medical students only total 20% combined, so if their numbers were completely eliminated, you'd think that at least half would go to whites.
