Insurance cimpanies are far from blameless, but they are amongst the only ones trying to keep costs down

It is pretty amazing what you can get for a Jimmy John's sandwich from a physician that makes $400K.

The irony is that most people probably believe the above and yet can also be easily led to the incorrect conclusion that government alone is the solution.

The challenge of trying to revert to a free market system that would ultimately be far cheaper for the vast majority is that no big entities have an economic interest to educate us on this.

We have generations of people in Western countries who think health care can some how be managed into "fairness". And that fairness now means no consequences for your own behavior and distributing the cost among others to cover your own needs, however much more you may need than others.

Nannyism

Absolutely, if everyone is made to be responsible for themselves. MAHA isn't Nannyism when .gov points a gun at my head, and makes me pay for the fact that you eat at Mickey Ds five times a day, and smoke weed in between, and want an addadicktomy and want me to pay for it all.

I was joking at the absurdity of Pharma companies controlling physicians based off highly regulated conferences. And yes, you can get pens at a conference but it’s usually home health agencies and other vendors (not Pharma) who hand them out. Also, there are conferences and symposiums where you can earn CMEs but that has nothing to do with the Pharma companies

From the drug companies to the health systems....not officially, of course.

"Bribes" from pharma in form of "conferences".

I really appreciate how you state this. The conference in Orlando with optional trainings, paid for dinners, and the free hotel for the family and kids is often a "bribe".

I remember in the 2016 republican primary debates Rand Paul said that the typical cost for a person on Medicare is $250;000 and that same typical person only paid in $100,000.

This has to be addressed.

Make health insurance actually insurance. That would solve a lot. Imagine if Home owners insurance paid for light bulbs to be changed? It'd be unaffordable too. Imagine if car insurance paid for oil changes? It'd be unaffordable. Also imagine both being paid by your employer.

Make health insurance for the big stuff and the rest be in HSA or FSA or just out of pocket. And detach from employment.

You cannot insure a human body. You can get life insurance to help loved ones after your untimely death, you can get terminal illness insurance to protect your family from something that runs in your family. All other "health" insurance is a scam where accountants and lawyers determine care instead of the doctor.

it has destroyed our health industry and this destruction was quickened by Obamacare which only forced more people into the ponzi scheme and only benefited the insurance company and not the patient.

I had a real estate professor that was basically an appraiser from Alabama that was paid to come teach one course. The opposite of what many think a professor would be.

We went off on a tangent on healthcare and my favorite quote of his was, "Back in my day, unhealthy people would die".

Now it is "If we try to keep them alive longer, they are the ones we can make the most money off of".

*Medicare and Medicaid have entered the chat.

Government "funded" healthcare drives costs and reimbursements as much as the others.
