I won't argue every issue in history on this thread, but on both of THOSE issues, my position is NOT what you have convinced yourself that it is.

You dimwits just see a position somewhat less "conservative" than your own, and you immediately attribute to that person the most "Leftist" position that you can imagine on that issue. It is simplistic and unintellligent, and it does not foster reasonable discussion of the issue.

That’s cute, Hank, thinking you have independent thoughts.

You were mean to me a few weeks ago, so I have been giving you the silent treatment. I am better now.

I would say it is more a combination of having some “understanding of what democracy is” coupled with a historic willingness to just generally go along with whatever “strongman” may be in power (or just generally perceived to be in power) at the time.

Both ME and SA have a history of generally going along with whatever strongman may be in power. Saddam and Assad both fit the “strongman” role in the ME, similar to what we see in SA

It’s incredible that almost no one on TD admits to being a leftist or progressive

Everyone here knows you are so why pretend you’re not?

Strange behavior

Understandable and a great point… would the 8 million people who left, obscure this though?

RA, how do you identify independent thinking on a message board? Ability to change one's mind? Ability to separate partisanship from thought?

As I said above, a strongman is a strongman ... whether you call him a caudillo or a sheik.

I’m largely indifferent. I didn’t care about Venezuela last year and I don’t care now. The executive-authority angle is mildly interesting, but mostly academic. Both parties have enabled executive power creep for over a century, and nothing about this raid meaningfully departs from that trajectory.

Willingness and ability to conduct an objective analysis of each issue, unaffected by the prevailing narrative.

Trump is a perfect example here. I dislike him, but I DO give him full credit when I see him do something worthy of praise. Just last night, I started a thread specifically to praise the clever maskirovka that he constructed to veil his intent vis-a-vis Maduro. Of course, that thread was ratioed by the villagers, because it was not adequately-fawning toward the Orange One.

Ok? We are saying the same thing.

Except….. I wasn’t making it a Catholic vs Muslim argument like you tried to do or insinuate here

But, but, but ... they are CATHOLICS, so they are just better people.

My point was one region has a history of understanding what democracy is and the other region had no concept of democracy (outside of Israel).

See, this is my point.

I use a term that is understood by every student of military history to mean "more than camouflage ... instead active disinformation."

Yet you almost certainly decided that it was intended to imply that Trump is a Russian agent or something equally silly.

The fact you had to edit your misspelling not only in your post but also my quote of your post is just :chefskiss:

Your lack of self awareness is astounding.

Coupled with being as boring as ever.

But I guess the two go hand in hand.
