Do you understand the difference between a green water (coastal defense) navy and a blue water navy?
Yes, Iran has the capacity to project "naval power" a few thousand meters offshore from one of its naval bases. It LACKS the capacity to project naval power a few thousand MILES from its borders.
Even with that being said, Iran's ability to patrol its coastal waters continues only because we allow it to do so. I think it safe to say that the Iranian naval base on Farsi Island would cease to exist within a few minutes of the initiation of any conflict between the US and Iran.
