All that may be true, but slavery in America was pretty shitty and trying to justify it looks pretty awful too.

1) all of that is true

2) this wouldn’t have to be said if Democrats didn’t talk about slavery and reparations every 5 minutes.

I was being tongue-in-cheek! My point was that liberals are entirely driven by emotion.

Absolutely, this is exactly what should happen.

Unfortunately, there are some who don't want to move on. They would lose out on making money if that happened. Plus, what would the next faux crisis be

And?

That makes it okay for white people to have boght slaves, owned slaves, beat them, rape them?

Thanks for clearing that up!
I'm afraid that the only thing that got cleared up is your lack of reading comprehension skills. Please show me where I approved of ANY acts of slavery....fyi, I don't.

The uncomfortable truth is that white people didn’t start slavery, they ended it.

• White people ended legal chattel Slavery.

This is the canned response to white people pointing out that Africa has had slavery continuously since before recorded time.

"but but but white people practiced 'chattel slavery,' the worstest kind there is." A jewish bay area teacher I know was feeding me this one day. Basically, white people slavery is worst that all other slavery because of our extra-evilness or something.

Makes no difference that it's total bullshite. Their sheep won't even look up what the term means, or that it's the exact kind of slavery that was invented in and is still practiced in parts of Africa.

Go look at BLM or other black activist sites. There are canned answers for all legit responses to the various "white people bad" memes.

It's similar to "if they say they have black friends, they're racist" Someone actually sat down and thought about all of the legit responses to the racism epithet and did everything they could to discredit them.

This kind of indoctrination is designed to eventually prevent any peaceful solution. Whatever they're "progressing" toward, they intend for violence to be a key element.

He does nor even make the list of the 100 largets slaveowners in SC ... just ONE of the slave states. Nationally. he MAY have been in the top thousand.
The first part is not true.

And I don't know why you're shitting on the guy for not just sticking to facts when you're just throwing out assumptions with your 'may' comment.

Why not stick with objective fact, rather than lies and half-truths?
I have seen the data in the past, but cannot locate it this morning. cursory search did find this site, which seems to list the largest slaveowners in a single Mississippi county.

That one county had 15 persons who owned more slaves than Ellison. If we extrapolate that figure to the 82 counties in Mississsippi, we get an estinate of approximately 1200 persons in Mississippi alone who owned more slaves than Ellison. If we extrapolate that figure across the 11 Confederate states, we get a VERY rough estimate of 13,000 persons who owned more slaves than Ellison.

These figures are probably a bit high due to the higher slavery rates in Mississippi versus some other Southern states, but it certainly looks reasonable to say that there were at
least 1,000 folks nationwide who owned more slaves than Ellison.

South Carolina is actually the only state that had a higher slavery rates than Mississippi, and the two states had approximately the same populations in 1860. As such, it also seems reasonable to interpolate that there were about 1200 slaveholders larger than Ellison in SC alone.

What does that have to do with the OP?
The OP is a needle in the haystack. Just because the needle is found doesn't change the exceptionality of the thing.

The response to "reparations" can become as utterly ridiculous as the request for reparations itself. The OP does not take that path, but it certainly points in the direction of it.

All I'm saying is raising the fact of a handful of freedmen, who themselves became slaveholders, was rare. It could be viewed as attempted lessening of broader facts of both previous racism and slavery.

Perhaps that was the OP's intent.
I certainly did not read it that way.
Others might though.

I understood the OP to be directed toward difficulties of both sourcing hypothetical reparations funding, as well as assigning hypothetical distribution. The devil is always in the details. In case of arguments for reparations, there are many devils. The OP's observation points out one of those many.

There is no excuse for slavery. There is no excuse for atrocities directed at black Americans over the 100yrs following Reconstruction. None! In distinguishing the stupidity of various Reparations proposals, I'd just caution not to jump-the-shark. It isn't necessary.

Yeah, everyone knows they should have taken Lincoln's advice and remained in the union to practice it constitutionally.

The Dim party could not exist without identity politics. I really believe a lot of Americans, particularly those over age 30 are finding this out and they're no longer buying the race baiting, white privilege, and the you're a victim of wealthy white conservatives keeping ya down.
