Not trying to start at argument about respecting the Queen or our relationship with the Brits today or anything. But yesterday, at Independence Hall in Philly, I noticed the flag was at half staff and couldn't help but think about what our founding fathers would think about that in the context of their time. I think they'd be rolling in their graves. Lets lower the flag out of respect of the Crown of which we rebelled.

Maybe they'd realize the world has changed a lot in 246 years, and that Britain is our closest ally, and that this symbolic gesture does nothing to diminish US standing in the world in any way.

I think they'd have a lot more problems with the tyrant in the White House than a flag lowered out of respect for QEII.

We lower the flag when sex workers in a massage parlor are killed... Lowering the flag has been cheapened to the point that I only pay attention when it is at full staff...

Oh, and it should not have been lowered for the Queen...

I think they would be too busy planning their next move against the tyranny in Washington over worrying about the flag. Also, if this was back then, the death and funeral would happen before news makes it here from across the Atlantic.

I am not there just yet but it's closer to my thought process than I would like.

And I agree the AMERICAN Flag should not be lowered for the natural death of the Queen of England. We are not talking about Winston Churchill here.

This country and those that claim themselves as "patriots" have done more in the past few years to destroy itself than the queen did in her entire life.

yeah, our closest ally.

That just so happened to help our intel community spy on our last president.

I ranted about half staff flag the other day before I realized it was for something else. Check to see if there is another reason, then rant...

I agree on both sides here. It's honestly not a huge deal, but I'm also slightly perturbed we'd do it for a foreign monarch.

Most of the founding fathers had respect for Great Britain, because they were true statesmen.

This. It's gotten to where I'm mildly surprised when it is NOT at half-staff. It used to be a symbolic gesture reserved for only the most significant of events...involving a strong interest for AMERICANS. Sadly, like everything else these days, the gesture has turned into just another means of vapid virtue signaling for any event for which the government wants to signal it's virture.

There's nothing wrong with the US acknowledging the death of the Queen of one of our strongest allies. But to have the flag flying half-staff for the death of, essentially, a ceremonial royal of another country is a bit unnecessary. And to have it flying at half-staff at Independence Hall of all places is beyond absurd given the fact the US was born out of the desire for independence from the British Monarchy. It essentially dilutes the gesture to the eventual point of insignificance (which may be purposeful for some faction of Americans)

Let's give some respect to the Brits. We may need their help to liberate this country at some point in the near future.

Queen Elizabeth had nothing to do with that.

It is a bunch of BS if for the queen. But, since the revolution, there has been so many who would not have rebelled.

It is obvious they were successful breeders.
