Survive and live? Yes Middle class maybe not

I’m looking at properties in or near the boulder area and honestly at this point because of the crazy codes and ordinances involved would rather buy a home with a fantastic view than build.
I’m older and want to live where I want but that area ain’t cheap.

Net worth would wash out all the variable…..

Too many variables unaccounted for like household size; rural vs city vs suburban living, etc.
People seem to think “middle class” means “not struggling to pay bills”. But that’s not an objective criteria. I know people making mid five figures per month living paycheck to paycheck. I also know people making f mid five figure per year that live comfortably within their means and have significant savings.

Well aren't you special Texas. You are now officially part of the southwest.

Say what you want about the South, it’s damn affordable. If you make 100k and have an ounce of discipline, you’re golden.

It says right on the graphic HOUSEHOLD income.
Also the poster above is correct. Middle class simply describes a mathematical measure of income. It has nothing to do with how comfortable people feel.
That being said, goddamn moving from LA to MN really brought me down a notch

Well that’s bullshite. That is poverty level
Objectively, definitionally, it's not.
I've been trying to tell y'all that what you think "middle class" people "should" be able to afford is not what middle class people used to be able to afford.
Like the perception of what a normal body weight is, what middle class is has been distorted to the point that the average person doesn't even know what it is anymore.

They actually think it means, "Being able to buy a large house in a nice neighborhood, drive two new cars, take vacations every year, and being able to pay your bills."
When I have described what life was like growing up I have been told that we were not really middle class.

How many in the south are making 100k?

Sounds like broke on a higher level to me. Two new cars?

Two public school teachers can pull in $100k.

The "what is middle class?" discussions on here predate Saban to Bama

Those are some wide ranges to say 40k-120k as middle class. Each end of that spectrum loves life a lot differently than the other.

Isn’t this why people focus on the quality of life for the middle class during political seasons?
There will always be a middle class when it comes to math. What it means to be middle class is a different conversation.

Those are big arse ranges

Still bs, the implication of that chart was a blanket version of what middle class is. First of all they are 3 versions of middle class, lower, middle and upper. Poverty class is a standard of 15,500 for single people 20,000 married, add kids and it jumps more. But with that comes the federal & state government to extend benefits that can add substantially. You know what’s not available for the family of lower middle class 37,000 per year household income ? Those extra benefits are not nearly available, so non technically it’s same as poverty if not actually worse as it has been shown in studies that a poverty level mother of 4 not working can average 60,000 plus in cash plus benefits, again something lower middle class cannot do. Also middle class standard reaches up to 115,000 which is not even close to 37,000 standard for the same middle class definition.

So this is a thread to “discuss” a math formula?
