No shite. It’s meant to keep people afloat not put into their 401k. Life ain’t fair, if you don’t actually need this money to survive consider yourself fortunate and move on. Nothing sadder than the well off complaining about the poor receiving help. I’m sure the good Lord smiles favorably upon you

Since this is the only place I’m constantly seeing this, I’ll assume this is all a big guess at the moment?

The idea is to compensate people in the service industry, who the government is mandating to close.

Exactly, and this spills into other areas as well...people are acting like this money is just going poof into thin air but the economy absolutely needs a boost TO GENERATE TAX REVENUE as well which comes like a boomerang right back to the government. These are not normal times folks and if the government is going to gut certain business sectors, they need to take measures, albeit not perfect fixes, to keep the economy afloat.

I would say this is a direct function and mandate of the government...providing for the common defense, in this case defending against this virus and also defending the economy from collapsing. Nobody ever said all battles would be fought with guns.

Immigrants (legal and illegal) do it all the time. Americans... not so much.

Very true, I came from absolutely nothing and learned how to save money at a pretty young age so it’s never been a problem for me, but I see a ton of mine and my wife’s friends blowing through there money all the time and will undoubtedly be stuck renting forever until they move out of the city.

I will say this though, once the wife gets partner at her law firm in 3 years or so life is gonna be great. Lol.

So....people who are already on the govt tit and refuse to work are going to get an additional $1200+ and not pay taxes. Meanwhile, I work my arse off to make a sustainable living for my family, pay my taxes and won’t receive aid even though my wife was furloughed today and we have mortgage due?

A government that redistributes wealth and punishes success is a lot sadder.

So welfare recipients, kids, and those that barely contribute via tax dollars will get $1000 of my money, meanwhile i still have to pay 25-30% of what i earn to the fedgov?

My family should get a check based on the numbers being proposed. Wife and I paid $18k in federal taxes in 2018 and $17.5k in 2019.

Wouldn’t call that “barely contributing”.

Well he’s so cool. He must be single and save every penny. My wife just got furloughed and I’m in sales. Kindly tell your friend to go frick himself and that everyone’s finances are unique.
