They don’t live in reality. Their entire worldview is shaped through movies and entertainment.
As you pointed out, there is an ongoing conflict that proves without a doubt the power of a united and motivated civilian force.
Maybe we should get one of them A10’s and those pesky middle easterners will learn their lesson!

None of that would happen. They would simply identify who belongs to such groups and stop by your house in the morning..totally peaceful like just wanting you to come down and answer some questions. If you refused...that would be real suspicious, or, in their favorite mode, "obstructing justice."

Do you have any concept of scale? There’s only 1.3 million people in the military. Total. Say half are in the US/ willing to attack US citizens. The US is roughly 3.7 million square miles. That works out to 0.18 soldiers per square mile. Roughly one soldier would have single-handedly hold 6.5 square miles of territory.
That simply isn’t going to happen with any degree of resistance. The idea of APCs running up and down the streets is... ridiculous.
