I'd hate to be in that kids situation. I'm married to a native and thankfully due to my southern family I was used to the idea of respecting elders.
However, the cultures (southern vs native) are slightly different in their appreciation of elders.
The proper way to handle this in native culture is to not stare at the elder.
There are alot of people in this part of the country that are really upset at this video because they see disrespect. No matter how it actually went down, him staring down the elder is not a good look.
I'm just here to provide perspective...not right or wrong.

I know it's weird asf but that's what children are taught in native culture
(at least in Alaska) ETA: it's not looking away as much as not staring directly back at them. Its squirrely ha. Reverance is extremely high with native elders

Completely agree. I'm just explaining how this could be contrived as disrespectful by the natives in my particular part of the country.
I would have did the same as that kid before I moved here. After living here and marrying a native, I would have simply moved away from him

Why did the Indian stop his sauntering through the crowd and stand in front of this one kid? I think the Indian chose to do this for the obvious reason y'all are now pointing fingers and finding ways to divide our people.
