Illinois city issues reparations in hopes to close wealth gap
An Illinois city chose 16 residents to receive $25,000 each in reparations in a first-in-the-nation program to address harms from slavery to discriminatory housing policies. The money from the fund, which was created back in 2019, can only go toward a home down payment, mortgages or repairing homes in an effort to increase minority property value.
Ramona Burton is one of the eligible residents of Evanston picked in a lottery to receive the reparations.
"It's a start, but I don't think it's enough for all minorities have been put through," Burton told CBS News when asked if the reparations are enough.
Robin Rue Simmons championed reparations in Evanston. She now runs First Repair, helping other communities do the same.
"The United States has harmed the black community for 403 years. Eras of terror and harm. And so repair is necessary. Equity has not been enough," she said.

Gets 25k and the first response is "its not enough". It never will be. Reparations are stupid and the people who did deserve them for slavery and oppression are long since dead.

Why are they attaching strings to these reparation payments?

The wealth gap will be closed. Soon, due to fiscal insolvency, so will the city of Evanston. Then, where will these residents get their money from?

Complete and utter bullshite.

Surely just giving people more money will make everything better! There are no consequences to dumping cash into the economy. It will never cause prices to rise.

All whites need to move out of there and watch as it becomes Haiti north.

So it's not even going to all the black people in that area? Just going to 16 people?
How do we know those 16 people aren't connected in some way to the assholes issuing the 'reparations'?
1.Issue reparations
2. Find a handful of people to cooperate with.
3. Rig the random drawing.
4. Give that handful of people $20k+ each.
5. Those handful of people funnel about $24k back to the people who issued that shite.. saving about 1k for themselves.
That would make more sense to me... because I refuse to believe there's such a greedy bitch out there. She gets $25k for free..and still says it's not enough.

We havent even been a country for 403. Anything prior to 1776 is England’s problem, not the US.

Now don’t forget the thousands in “Covid relief” and other freebies. Public assistance? What does that add up to?
Lol. 100,000 wouldn’t be enough. A free brand new home wouldn’t be enough. There is no “enough”.

The best thing the government did to increase the wealth of the wealthy during the pandemic was to give out those checks to everyone.
Within a few months, that money was in the pockets of the wealthiest people in America again. Most people bought stupid shite like TVs and game consoles.
Giving poor people money never works the way that these people want it to work.
It's going to make some wealthy people in that community even more wealthy and those people will be back where they are within a year.
