This new Pope (while respectfully still our spiritual leader and deserving of our prayers) has proved to be as liberal as one would expect from a pope from chicago. They will probably let this guy go without punishment.

Why do people post things without checking the veracity?
This incident happened in February 2025, a few months before Leo was Pope.
The culprit was a Romanian national and not Muslim. Romania is in the EU, so this wasn’t an issue of failed immigration policies in Italy. This person was free to travel from Romania to Italy under the Schengen arrangement.

I hope that security is better there now.
But the key "takeaway" is that this happened 15 months ago and it is not "news".
There is a "Security Lesson" to be learned here, however, and that is: when it comes to very priceless and old stuff, you'd better guard it well, because if you don't, there WILL be attacks on that property, to either steal it or smash it, so - if you want that precious bling on display, you'd better guard it and guard it well, because once it is smashed, arresting the Smasher is sort of like closing the barn door after the whores ran away.
