Here is a better explanation. They were taught a valuable lesson in getting your arse beat when you FU. The natural gifts of their culture let them see clear not to do FA or FO. The Japanese culture is one of the most unique and pure in the world. They made mistakes but have learned from them. They also are similar to Poland and are not letting migrants ruin their country. I hold them in high esteem.

The middle east will eventually sort itself out if all the first world and second world countries stop interfering. Without that sort of interference, either Israel wins or the muslims win. If the muslims win, then eventually the different variants of islam will go to war and a winner will rise to the top and unite the middle east. All of this could take decades or hundreds of years to come to come to a close. But, the residents of that region should have the opportunity to shape it how they want.
Right now if a leader or group rises up in one of the middle eastern countries and takes it over, before they get the chance to expand or solidify their gains, one of the 1st or 2nd world countries will funnel countless funds and military equipment to rebel groups within that country, to fight the ruling group.. making it impossible to stabilize anything.

As an ex grunt that remembers the marine barracks in Beruit and the hostage crisis in Tehran I have a completely different perspective.

I would right now have 4 subterranean targets that might necessitate nuclear weapons. I would eliminate those and pause for effect.

Anything that happened in the past can happen again. The majority of Japanese would not need to support, like how if leftists here get power with any sort of electoral cushion they have everything rigged in their favor.

I see this frequently these days.
Anything that tests consistency in logic can and should be taken seriously as a hypothetical regardless of how unlikely a scenario it is.
The point is not to deal with the scenario itself, it's to test the consistency of the logic by extrapolating it out to an often highly unlikely or even impossible degree.
His scenario is not self-contradictory and everything in it is logically possible.
So yes, your response is likely a dodge to avoid having your logic exposed.

For some reason people think that you can take nuclear weapons and detonate them and it only affects the area in which they were detonated. For some reason people don't understand that the power of today's nuclear warheads and destructive after-effects are somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-50 times greater than the bombs we dropped in WWII.
I don't really get it. I thought those things were common knowledge.
The likely global effects of even a limited nuclear event in the ME would be famine that could even affect food production here in the US, the stock market would tank, there would be a global recession, the price of oil would skyrocket, etc.
I get why you would be temped if the hypothetical was real, but the cost/reward ratio isn't there.

The Japanese were fortunate in being occupied by Americans. No split with the Soviets, No joint occupying powers. They had American Caesar. A benevolent dictator that steered them into becoming a representative government.
MacArthur was a showboat and rubbed a lot of folks wrong but he was a perfect choice for Japan.

Buddy, Those lessons historically last about a dozen years, max. Germany learned as big a lesson in WW1 and were back at everyone's throats twenty years later.
So far it has held up that democracies don't have a taste for war. They'll do small ones from time to time, but they have to be attacked to engage in a real struggle.
