Change my mind.

It is true that history (or the present) is built on the past.
Truly mind-bending stuff here.

History is full of "what ifs."

fricking stop. We entered WW1 at the exact perfect moment. We tipped the balance with the least amount of casualties. It was the equivalent of sending in the unhittable closer in the bottom of the 9th.
To your point- sure, there would've been no Hitler. But there would've been far less democracies in Europe and we still would've had Stalin.

But what would have been in his place?

And as George Santayana’s famous aphorism suggested, this pellucid point seems to be lost on the reigning political establishment.

Not if General Ludendorff hadn't sent Lenin back to Russia from exile in Switzerland to stir up the Russians and take them out of the war.

Hmmm. Sounds like a post I read earlier
Eh. We were “in” WWI years before we were in WWI.
We fed and armed the French and brits almost right off the bat. We don’t do that the war is over well before Lenin is sent East.

Watcher disagrees. Hitler would have gotten all the infinity stones and killed us all.

I was talking about this with a Russian the other day.
The Soviet Union would have collapsed much sooner without WW2, the Soviet victory over the Germans, and the shared sacrifice that ordinary people made, legitimized the state and brought everyone together.
And that’s not to mention the material benefits that the Soviet Union gained from the war. The rapid industrialization and the allied investment were huge.
As to Europe, I would take the prewar map over the post war map. Europe was a better place before WW1. The war gutted the west.

People who don't know history don't realize the plot against the jews by natural born Germans started long before Hitler. Hitler obviously capitalized on that hate and managed to rise to power but they were gaslighting and coming after the Jewish nation for many many years and blaming them for all of Germany's failures. Damn near anyone who rose to power with German at this time was planning on eradicating jews.

Another shining example of the folly of America's interventionist foreign policy.

We tipped the balance for whom? A war between Imperial Powers for Global Hegemony? The godforsaken landscape of the modern Middle East is direct outgrowth of the victorious Imperial Powers desire to reshape the world in their image.

I prefer to believe that the Allies did a terrible job of negotiating the armistice. They put zero restrictions on Germany’s ability to mass produce weapons of war.

1913 was an annus horribilis in American history.
The Federal Reserve was established, a progressive income tax was initiated and the 17th Amendment led to the direct election of Senators instead of their appointment by state legislators, effectively killing the doctrine of States’ rights.
Woodrow Wilson also assumed office.
All these various elements coalesced to create a massive shift of centralized power to Washington D.C.
It has been a downhill slide into tyranny ever since.

Yes they did. In fact, the restrictions on Germany and war reparations that came out if Versailles were too punitive and allowed an environment where Hitler could rise. After that Hitler just ignored the treaty and created whatever war machine he wanted.
