Or would it be a wide open sprint for the nomination?

Why do some posters find it so difficult to discuss hypotheticals?

Nope. As others have said a wide open field. I would imagine the rnc will be looking hard for a candidate that plays ball.

Also for a future possible, Mike Pompeo.

I dont think so, but that is an interesting question. I think you could see Nikki Haley emerge as a candidate.

After getting a taste of anti-establishment, non politician grit, I don’t know how we go back to spineless GOPers

Absolutely not. He wouldn't even be a frontrunner.
DJT, regardless of how he is portrayed by the media, is not a Republican ideologically. The party is simply his means to an end.

Pence is an evangelical conservative Republican who was added to the ticket solely to convince middle-aged white Midwesterners that the Trump ticket had a semblance of trustworthiness and morality.

The Republican primary electorate wouldn't give Pence the time of day because he is un-electable at the top of the ticket. The national electorate has had zero interest in the evangelical wing of the Republican party for more than 4 decades. The whole election would be about abortion rights and other similar policies and the GOP would get clobbered.

tl;dr: Pence would be the worst nominee possible, either in 2020 (should POTUS not run) or in 2024 (if POTUS gets a second term)
