Obviously. But substitute Congress for Trump in the title.

No need. The statutes already exist.

Trump just needs to pick the right one this time.

The problem is what happens with the refunds

That's going to be a mess.

I doubt the affected countries will seek recourse. Otherwise, Trump can simply arrange the tariffs (done in the legal manner) in such a way that will cover any cost of restitution.

Lol... Trump is well suited to deal woth these issues. He's made billions doing this exact thing, business deals.

Saw some group of 800 small businesses already sent letters to congress and the WH demanding refunds for what they paid in tariffs.
If it comes to that, they should have to demonstrate commensurate business loses. If they simply passed costs on, they shouldn't be entitled to 1¢

So explain the irony around this

When you have bailouts, civil asset forfeiture, monetary easing, and California passing laws to steal crypto currency "abandoned" for 3 years...among the many other avenues being used against the citizenry

Why so obtuse?

eta: Dont forget to include USAID as well.

I already covered that. As messed up as those are, they are all legal.

This was completely illegal.

Saying "as messed up as they are" is an admission that it is indeed theft, but "completely legal" ignores the complete and total corruption of the American legal system of which you pretend to be apart of

In the very least it becomes a credit for the new tariffs that are about to be imposed.

Consumers and businesses need to address the sellers who passed on those "illegal tariff" costs. My lawyers has already fired off the demand to Amazon.

If cost were passed on then they would have to identify any losses in tariffs as opposed to those others which were zeroed out. It could spark a huge wave of lawsuits against companies as well as for companies.

Congress will tackle this right after they write a budget and take up the Save Act.

Not necessary. Multiple avenues already exist that don't require Congress to do anything.

OK. But you know who has even less of an entitlement to 1 cent of the collected tariffs - the US government.

When you illegally take property you don’t get to keep it because someone else mitigated their loses.

Tell the government that. Ever met anyone who had their stuff taken from asset forfeiture wrongly? Takes years if not decades to get it back.
