Since Congress won't get off their arse

quote:

Only a few weeks after Governor C.L. Butch Otter issued a controversial -- and legally questionable -- executive order allowing insurers to sell plans that do not meet all of Obamacare's mandates, Blue Cross of Idaho unveiled a set of policies that could cost half as much as those sold on the exchanges.

It is happening.

Is there a legal requirement for policies to comply with obamacare mandates? Or do they just comply because they have to if employers are going to sign up for group coverage and to qualify for the obamacare marketplace?

Health share plans do not have to comply with obamacare mandates.

If this is legal, insurance companies have 10 months to develop more affordable plans to offer for 2019.

Bring it on.

Also, the premiums can vary widely. Consumers will have to fill out a 20-question form about their medical history. The healthiest folks could pay roughly half of what the bronze plan would cost them -- $90 a month versus $238 a month for a 21-year-old. But the maximum rate could cost more -- particularly for older Americans, who tend to have more medical issues. They might have to pay $971 a month if they have pre-existing conditions, compared to $713 a month for the bronze plan. Insurers are not allowed to turn anyone away because of their health backgrounds.

Sounds great, hope this spreads like wildfire.

The first benefit cut was mental health coverage.

Next was substance abuse. (Opioids)

Much applause

Or maybe its a good idea not to apply blanket charges to all plans for mental health and substance abuse coverage.

People like myself are extremely unlikely to have either and its BS that I would have to subsidize someone else's issues. Same thing for child birth coverage. A single male should not have to pay their insurance company a premium for child birth coverage.

There's still a mega budget for mental health if I'm not mistaken

Under my employer sponsored insurance, those were only for inpatient treatment anyways. Psychiatrists are generally covered under specialists, and suboxone can still be prescribed by licensed primary care physicians. Most methadone clinics still give free service to those that cannot afford it.

Not "sub Obamacare" plans, they are simply "non-obamacare" plans. They may well be just as good or better, and at a lower cost.

There is no "sub" when a plan actually becomes affordable because it no longer offers prostate coverage for women, hysterectomy coverage for men, and maternity coverage for 60y/o's.

Idaho is in the 9th circuit. Expect one of those judges to take it upon his or herself to stop this cost saving madness.

It's like sanctuary cities for health insurance.
