re: I wish more people would read Ayn Rand. Terrible at fiction but her themes are awesome

I really enjoyed The Fountainhead. It's the only one of her works I've read- kind of like the only Nirvana song I know is "Smells Like a Teen Spirit"- but I was captivated by the plot and it was a fast read for me. The setting of early 20th century America (1922-1937) was fun for me to explore.

Atlas Shrugged is completely about the protagonists, which have their flaws and doubts. The antagonists don’t too much matter. It’s fine that they are pathetic and weak minded.

Notice that most folks are describing form with very little content. Atlas shrugged was about content and what the result of collectivism is. Got a lot of shallow folks here and in the media

Collectivism begat socialism begat marxism. Multiple experiments in progressive ideals have proven where all of this goes given oxygen and time.
Not sure what your post is alluding to.

Neil Peart was called a right wing racist by the fake news media when he mentioned her on RUSH’s 2112 album.

Many of NP's early lyrics were inspired by her writings.

Funny how *wrong think* works.

That's so obtuse I don't even know what you mean.
I take it you’ve never read anything by Marx or Engels, you know, what could be considered pretty much Rand’s opposite.

No, I have not. Personally, I am not interested in propaganda that validates ne'er-do-wells. If you suck at life then so be it. Just don't expect me to pay for it.

I assumed her books were on the banned list by now?
No?
Like many of my generation, Rand was a pivotal right of passage. It is required reading in my house.

How much value is there to gain from reading what you already agree with? It’d be good to read what the “ne’er-do-wells” are reading so you know their arguments. Otherwise you’re only looking for confirmation bias.
And telling people that “so be it” if they suck at life will not likely lead to a fruitful debate in getting them to change their opinion on a matter. It’d likely would lead to further entrenchment in their position.

I'm not interested in getting their vote unless they buy in to the ideology that this is an even playing field and all you need to do to succeed is play the game. If you want to act like you are a victim then you are already lost. And there is Marx and Engels.... It's a disease.

Rand's writing style resonates more the the high IQ speed reader, probably why a lot of posters are throwing shade her way.

Atlas Shrugged changed my viewpoint on a lot of things. Like the OP said, the prose and writing is pretty bad, but the underlying message and themes are so powerful it will give you goosebumps.
The things she wrote in that novel over 50 years ago are happening right now.
The way she portrays how leftists think and operate is so chillingly accurate.

We don't live in a funny, ironic time. Useless people are trying to dictate how the useful live their lives.

Your placing constraints on a conversation that debates the merits of Marx vs Rand and not giving yourself the chance to open their minds to your point of view.

That type of absolutist thinking will definitely not get people to read Ayn Rand.

Which you only know through what you’ve been told. And before you conflate me with being a sympathizer, I’ll kindly point you back to my first post where I called their writings comedy with the implication it was hilariously bad.

I am just sure in my opinions that no man should be given anything that he didn't earn. I don't believe in the unicorns that marx and engels believe in (and I don't believe that they even actually believe in them either). Their entire philosophy is based upon people voting against their own self interests. No thanks. In their philosophy, the only person that votes for it are those that need something from people that can actually do anything at all...
Yep. frick that.
