Europeans get a lot of credit for being civilized, but Europeans have been hating on each other and killing each other for centuries.
NATO (and the European Union) has prevented this for the last 80 years. The more that nation states trade with each other and ally with each other, the less likely they are to go to war with each other.
NATO also is the reason why there aren't any Chinese military bases in Europe. All it would take was one rogue European nation budding up to China and being a dickhead.

You think pledging our blood and treasure for a country like Slovenia is what makes us the global hegemon and swinging dick that makes the rules? You think defending Europe by funding their defense, while they implement socialism and thumb their nose at us gives China the cold shivers? The only people who give a shite about NATO are the countries living under its protection. All we get back is a middle finger.
We are a global hegemon and swinging dick that makes the rules. And it isn't NATO, or any other alliance that makes us so. It's the fact that we are willing to invest trillions of dollars in our own defense, which means we can blow up shite and kill people to our heart's content. We can do anything we want to do globally, whether we are a NATO member or not. The problem is, being a NATO member obligates us to defend a country with our blood and treasure, that doesn't give two shits about us otherwise. It is a completely one-sided proposition.

You seem really really fixated on Article 5. It's a pretty simple view of Nato.
Also, being the hegemon is much more than who spends the most on defense. If that was the case, China could buy its way in by outspending on their military. I ain't that simple.

I'll make it more simple for you. My oldest son is 27, my youngest is 25. There is not a single NATO member that is worth their lives. People are being killed by the thousands right now because the EU and marxist democrats decided that we could push Russia around and let Ukraine in. So here's you a list. You can name the countries, or just give me a count of how many of them are worth the lives of your kids or grandkids. Because that's what it is really all about, outside of bilking the American taxpayer to pay for Europe's defense.

Interesting interpretation of what you feel NATO is. Grossly inaccurate but interesting.
