I honestly don't care that much about Trump being banned although I do think it's unhealthy to coordinate on an effort to silence a fairly-elected President.

But the Parler situation is much, much worse and shows a far more vindictive intent. Parler didn't contribute in any meaningful way to the cap invasion. It's merely an alternative they don't control, and one that became a destination for wrongthink conservatives. They can't have that, so even though Parler is merely the public square - they're trying to wage war on it. For being an unregulated public square. Surely that bothers any freedom-loving person.

A real liberal was and is passionate about those rights. The term liberal really doesn’t apply to the left anymore . Not classic liberalism

It is, the government bans speech by not protecting us...

Go read Jefferson and Madison.

Jefferson said in one of his SoU speeches, in so many words that speech shouldn't be restricted in any forum and if I've pissed off someone so bad they want to rally to take me out, then I deserve it.

Again do you want the government telling tech companies what they can and can’t do?

Big government and the tech monopoly are already in bed. I don't know why you pretend this isn't the case.

Last I checked progressives want to break up big tech. The government can’t force a private company to preserve free speech. It’s not a first amendment issue. Which is why there is an issue when a few companies run the show and control the content.

What do y’all want to happen? Government forces Twitter to unban Trump?

If you don't like twitter's policies then build your own app.

..but don't expect us to allow it to be downloaded...

..oh and hell, you can't use our server hardware.

..and frick off, install some solar panels & generate your own electricity to run it.

..what? no one will sell you solar panels? too bad.

sorry VISA and AMEX refuse to allow you to have credit or buy your own supplies to DIY solar panels. oh well.

Probably not. So the solution does not lie ther

Free speech/freedom are not limited to the first amendment

So yeah, it's definitely a public square/marketplace of ideas/free speech issue

They're simply obsessed with whatever can give them the clout and power at the time. They have no real morals or standing on any issue; it changes with the wind. Remember when they were obsessed with police shootings, all of this past year? Rioted and protested about it? Yea, it was a major deal. Last week an unarmed female was shot and killed by a cop. Heard any outrage from a a liberal about it? LOL.

They never actually cared.

Conservatives however will ostracize their own if they go against the morals of the party. Easy example...Vitter was shunned with the quickness. You think governor Coonman faced or will ever face any repercussions from his liberal base? frick no lol. They were trying to eliminate conservative leadership above him so they could move him UP, now down.

They openly planned terrorist attacks and spouted about the amount of fear they could generate? Is that the free speech they wanted?

Hell, it was more than that. Back in the 60s the worst thing you could be called was 'a conformist'. Now, everyone must conform or be destroyed.

I never thought I would see the day when our willingness to give away our digital "DNA footprint" would be used to harass us and cancel our lives and careers because of a difference of political opinion.

We've been headed here a long time.

I don't think anyone is thinking the less than 50% of america thst supports trump is entirely full of traitors. Just the die hard toe the line he's always right folks who stormed the capitol. And most of those are people too dumb to realize q is a malicious prank on their gullibility

Can you imagine being so weak minded that you allow another human being to tell you that what your eyes see and ears hear are wrong?

I'd fricking spray cherry pie all over the ceiling with my mossberg if I ever found my mental fortitude so lacking.

I could never imagine letting my dignity or honor be rented out by another human, but obviously there are millions of pussies who just roll over and take it.

If I could upvote this one hundred times it still wouldn't be enough. You hit the nail square on the head and we really need more people to understand this

At least some Democrats occasionally take sides with the people instead of our corporate overlords.

Any of this is completely invalidated by the fact that they also take sides with a small contingent of the people in attempting to rob and harm another contingent.

I don't have faith in anyone to fix the problem, but the Democrats are - broadly speaking - opposed to the people who have affection and admiration for this country.
