I keep on seeing the talking point that Louisiana is a net taker state of federal funding, as opposed to other states who are net givers… would it be worthwhile for our citizens if Louisiana pursued a goal of being net neutral in this department? Is it even realistic with all the hurricanes we have?

I wonder how commerce from the Mississippi River and oil extraction from the lousiana coastline factor into that analysis.

While technically true, the reasons are multifaceted and have much to do with our natural resources and how the debits/credits are accounted for in regards. You simply can’t compare Louisiana to somewhere like Vermont

We would need to drastically reduce the number of welfare recipients which would require more jobs, which would require a business friendly environment, which would require tort reform, which would require a state government not beholden to the lawyer lobby.

That’s for starters.

The New Orleans , Shreveport and BR urban expenditures are greater than the tax base of all Louisiana.

We don’t have the economy. To put it plainly, Louisiana would be a third world country if it weren’t for federal funding.

Don't be fooled by the stats that show some state with better tax and protection structures host a corporate HQ and therefore is listed as income for that State.

i.e. International Paper Company operates several facilities in Louisiana, but their HQ is in Memphis

Louisiana also has a GDP per Capita ($68,000) ranking of 26 out of 50 states and higher than France, Australia, UK, Germany, and Canada.

Our GDP rate of change is 3% placing us at #15 amongst the States.

Louisiana's GDP in 20223 was $310B placing us at #48 out of 193 UN recognized countries.

While Louisiana is far from great, we aren't exactly as needy as some might make us out to be.

Diverse industries with Seafood, Forestry, Petrochemicals, Agriculture all are needed commodities over silicon chips and banks.

Propaganda is strong to make you think a State cannot make it without the financial support of the FedGov. Yet those bastards only exist today to create a more dysfunctional codependent relationship between itself and the citizens of the States.

federal funding.

There is no such thing as federal funding. It all comes from the citizens of the states or the money printer which is just future money from citizens.

It’s bc of the it’s “free” crowd. Everything is “free” from Government. It appears out of thin air.

The biggest reason for LA’s status is the ridiculously small amount of money the state receives for the oil harvested off our coast. LA would be an incredibly well off state if the Feds were not stealing the credit/money for our oil drilling.

I'm inclined to agree with you. But I also think of some of the poorest people I've seen out in the sticks on welfare and think about how much $ they get vs the amount of money wasted on shitbags like Cantrell and Broome and their useless administrations and travel.

You can get a better handle on the welfare system by going back to distribution of commodities. Strip away the EBT cards. No one should go hungry, we're too good a people for that, however, frick any mother fricker on welfare eating better than anyone out there busting their arse to make a paycheck.

Everybody got their own problems. Not one State that has more than 2M people and a major city has their act together.
