Leave it to a Stanford guy to start referring to Area Under Curves. What's next discussions on integrals?
On a more serious note, thanks for highlighting this.
Although I doubt our political rivals will understand as math is racist.

I’m not aware of anywhere, even in NYC, where capacity was exceeded, is exceeded now, or came close to being exceeded. So the plot of that blue line is off. If plotted correctly it would show that more measures were applied than were needed.

thank you for explaining OP

All you have to say is that the area under the curve is ultimately the same in theory.
I get that your intent is to be snarkey but its really not that complicated nor is it widely misunderstood.
What does seem to be flying over most of this board's head though is basic risk management. Risks have probability and impact vectors. Mitigations are implemented to reduce probability or in the event that they come to pass and become issues reduce their impact.
Successful mitigation strategies are NOT evidence that no risk ever existed or that the risk/issue would not persist or rise again if mitigations were deprecated. This is what people here seem to either be missing or ignoring because it doesnt fit into their daily sky scream about the economy or the impact to Trump's reelection chances.

only the crazies are still saying this
hell, even the crazies said there was risk. they just compared it to an annual threat (the flu)

i think everyone understands this. it's just that the initial models were SO OFF that we actually NEED to have more spread
otherwise, this will take years of SAH

you think most people have a working knowledge of Calc2?

And I agree that the current track is not sustainable forever. But a lot of people seem to be arguing that there shouldn't have been any shutdown and that we need to reopen everything at once

Your black line goes to the end of the graph. Who do you think is proposing that?

They're arguing about how soon. Your black line should be a lot shorter.
And you seem to have more confidence in the philosopher-kings of our technocracy than I would've expected.

To continue with the condescending attitude, what YOU seem to be missing is that the elimination/reduction of a risk in and of itself is not evidence of a successful risk mitigation strategy.
If you needed to secure a stock certificate worth $10,000, would you consider building an underground 3,000 sqft bunker complete with state of the art security and a 24/7 100 man guard a successful risk mitigation strategy?

what does this matter if we're so far under the danger zone?
every moment that we're under that line is wasted and only further prolongs SAH measures

Because we'd like to provide some deferred elective care again at some point.

And just like that, SFP's attempt at fame became derailed due to the zealous efforts of the poli board's resident copyright infringement detective.
