He is filling a void left by Rush Limbaugh. Sean Hannity and the other fringe right wingers on TV cannot seem to hold the same audience like Rush once commanded.
Bill seems to have found the right balance of attacking both sides no matter how politically incorrect it may be. There are crazies on both sides of the political spectrum.

That is because our crazies on the right say stupid talking points that get them unelected while the crazies on the left keep getting elected because some of them are on islands of crazy through gerrymandering districts that feed the crazy to the surface and are backed by a sycophant media that feeds them even more.

I love seeing the Left turn on itself, especially when it's because of things we've been trying to point out to them but they accused us of various forms of hate because of it. Maher is one of the current poster boys for this movement, but I'll never forget how he flat-out stated at the beginning of Trump's first term that he hoped for a recession just so it would crush Trump.
He may see the error of going too far to the Left now, but he was one of the drivers for that movement for many years.

Whether he or anyone else wants to admit it, he has become more conservative over time.
I thought Religulous was terrible and nothing more than a juvenile attack on Christianity...and it was. It was nothing more than him rebelling like the kid that just got out of Catholic School and away from the parents.
But as is often the case, age creates wisdom and emotional maturity. And you see him today speaking far more rationally and thoughtfully than in his youth.
I enjoy his snarky commentary and think there is a great deal of truth in it.
I think he would still consider himself a "liberal", but is finding it difficult to identify the liberalness in the modern Democratic Party.

that's really the issue, celebrities tend to hop on these bandwagons and have very little knowledge of the actual subject, it's just the trendy thing to hop on a mic and shout "free palestine!!!

He has stated he was raised Catholic (at least for some period of his childhood) and found out about his Jewish heritage later.
