That’s an excellent point. I have children who fall in that category, and I plan to not leave them the bulk of our wealth. But that was for another reason. My wife and I think that leaving excessive wealth to children, who had no part in earning it, is corrosive to their spirit.

My children are all high character people and are self-sufficient. They have never asked for help since they graduated college. They don’t need it, just like my wife and I didn’t need it. I’m proud of that and proud of them. The ones who vote Democrat are voting for socialism, and they will get what they deserve. If they are unhappy with it they have only themselves to blame.

So should my FIL leave money for at least 2 of his sons who cry about tax cuts for the rich and support a capital gains tax? Like these people don't even realize they're advocating for their own inheritance to surrender a portion to the FedGov because they believe in the Gov "helping the poor" like that actually fricking happens.

I'm kinda the opposite. I'm 63, have had a fairly successful and content life. Worked hard since 12, not rich or anything close. But before I check out with my few remaining years, I pretty much work and do everything I can to make sure I can leave as much as I can to my son.
Have a good job that I enjoy (most of the time ) so I'd like to work until 70. His future happiness, as much as I can affect it, that's what gives me peace.

He will duck and run as people lacking decency would when saying that boomers havent done anything to help this country.

The return question that he ducked and ran was "what have you done?"

saw it multiple times - kept running from it - will likely keep running from it..

I agree - spend out the $68 Trillion.. or give it to other decent ones with the precaution to watch out for lowlife trash that will seek to take it.

I'm going to do that when my kids put me in assisted living. That will about eat up the value of my home.

The wife suggested we do this. I am flexible to a point. I do care about my children and what we leave them.

I had a point that anyone who wasn't completely self assured of their own infallibility could see. Which is also the point when discussing things with boomers.

Man, I’m sorry you feel this way, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen you talk about a grandkid or the like before whose beliefs infuriated you. Look, life is too short to cut off family over politics. I just don’t understand this at all. My siblings and I are more liberal, and I are parents are conservatives. We have a tremendous relationship. There is no universe in which it would be severed by politics. As far as inheritance goes, none of us need it. We’ll get something as Mom and Dad have been smart and planned, but if we don’t, it’s not a big deal. You just seem to have so much anger on this issue. It makes me sad for you.

"If you’re a Boomer with children and grandchildren who are America First/MAGA types I can understand wanting to kick them some bucks when you check out, but for you Boomers that have children and grandchildren that are voting against your best interests and expecting you to drop that pot of gold at their feet when you check out…..

....somewhat agree, but young people change their political leanings and voting habits when they grow a little older. Getting married, owning a house, maybe starting a business. All of these change younger generations. Thus, the saying - "If you are not liberal when you are younger, you don't have a heart. If you are not conservative when you are older, you don't have a brain." Maybe cut them a little slack with regards to your inheritance. Just my opinion...

A Boomer post I actually agree with

I'm pushing 40 and have heard the 'Trust Fund Kids' who don't have Trust Funds plan their retirement around some inheritance they're owed and Social Security

Kind of crazy to me as Social Security will be gone by the time we'll be retiring and these "inheritances" keep getting spent up by their "selfish" parents

They're actually upset that the family fortune won't make it to them in tact if at all

Okay, make your point as if you're making it to someone "completely self assured of his own infallibility" so I can 'see' it.

To the OP. I’m a Gen Xer and have contemplated the same thing in regards to distribution of my assets. My Roth, 401K , Annuity and Pension fund have all taken a hit because one of mine contributed to this in the voting booth. I’m not sure she she should receive the same as the others.

I dearly love my young great grandchildren family, but I know there is zero chance of them of them holding on to or maintaining anything I could pass on to them. Worldly or Spiritual. The coming Fascist System is going to grind their freedom or any advantage into dust. Of course, said System will inevitably collapse, as the very weaknesses it encourages in it's cultural dependency strategy/policy is its own Achilles' heel. The complexity alone dooms it.

I live by my Faith, as I believe the prophetic scenarios are rock solid, as well as the ultimate outcome. "All things happen for the good of them that love God". Real Love, not the fake version.

Life in the realm of 'Individuals' will always be painful and bittersweet. That is why the Good Book says that "if you love this World, the love of the Father is not within you". Those of us who enjoy the many benefits of our Faith can make a good life, as long as we hold the proper Vision. But we can never avoid the pain; only the temporal indulgence of focusing on it.
