Unions are a major contributor to the ridiculous price of vehicles. Everyone wants to pay $50,000 for a vehicle that’s really only worth $30,000. They had their place many years ago but not today with all the government regulations. No wonder their membership has been declining for decades.

My experience, too. You’d assume they’d be right-wing because they hint and fish or whatever, but one glimpse at their social media or a conversation at a bar during campaign season… yeah you see their true colors. Gotta protect that cushy job before all else.

Yep.
Back when I was on the railroad guys you wouldn't think could possibly be democrats were hard core dem voters.
All because they think the dems are the reason for their high paying jobs. And that is all they consider when voting. Nothing else.

Labor is actually only about 7% of the cost. There is a reason so much has been automated.
Which cost the UAW thousands and thousands of jobs. Along with foreign competition let in freely to compete. It's a shell of what it was years ago but the smooth brain membership doesn't seem to see that.
For your opinion to be true the foreign brands assembled in the US would/could be many thousands cheaper than the domestics, but they are not

Would not have been a problem if UAW built quality products. Toyota and Honda proved you didn't need union workers to built a good car and it made the union obsolete.

I see you have been indoctrinated.
Your job can move to a right to work state or, as Ford did it decades ago .......put taco benders in Mexico to work while they shuttered your workplace.
You have no protection.

There should be mandatory IQ tests required to vote.
And, aside from the elderly on SS, you should be required to be a net contributor to the Federal treasury to vote in Federal elections. So, if you paid $1,500 in taxes, but got $12,000 in government benefits, then frick you. No voting.

I despise unions. Lost a good friend as he became a far left whackjob when he became a local chairman. Couldn't stand to discuss anything with him after that.
You and Pvt. Pyle can believe whatever lets you sleep at night.

Reagan tried to protect the union workers and automakers with quotas on Japanese cars and it backfired spectacularly. We got higher value Japanese cars (Lexus, etc) out of the deal.
Without the imports, we would have kept on making ultra shitty cars.

Yep. The union agreements say any plant built in the US or Canada has to be UAW represented.
GM built 4 assembly plants in Mexico and Ford 3 after that agreement.
Those are just assembly plants. There are parts/powertrain plants there as well.
The only reason there are not more is political pressure.

No....
There was a shite ton of cost cutting done in the 80s and 90s due to the crushing union contracts the Big Three signed after a prolonged strike in 1971.
They were paying more in pensions and healthcare than to the people actually putting the cars together.
The beancounters ruled the roost.
