These party insiders who detest Trump are a bunch of moderates. Between Trump and DeSantis who is also a moderate? Who is the conservative?

You are voting for Trump because a bunch of people don't like him instead of voting for who will do the best job running the country.

What if he can't reduce the federal budget by 10%, but is able to lead Republicans in freezing spending? Is that impossible? Would it not be a good first step?

That would be fantastic. We just went through all kinds of twisting ourselves in knots to DECREASE the RATE of spending for the debt ceiling limit raise. A much easier mechanism, it seems to me, is to refuse to raise the debt ceiling and force the government into operating a balanced budget. Again, I don't think any single human being as president has the stones to do that.

I'm not a defeatist. It's not even clear to me why you give a shite who the president is, because it seems like you believe we'll be no worse off with Biden in the office than we would be with Trump or DeSantis.

I'm almost 40. Got a 6 year old girl. I just need 20 more years of the government staying off my arse and I'll be able to amass enough wealth at my current rate to ensure my daughter can escape or buy her way out of whatever the future holds. At 60, if the FBI wants to murder me in my sleep, if I need to die fighting my government, or I just resign myself to living in a dystopian hellscape run by the antichrist, so be it at that point. I've already been blessed beyond all measure any human should be.

Yet, Trump is polling astronomically, and has the endorsement of about 70% of Republicans in congress, according to jjdoc's incessant threads.

I think that's the crux of the difference between you and me. I am voting for the guy who has the best chance of winning the war over the guy that has the most to gain by winning the war.

Trump is a great campaigner. He is obviously capable of eliciting crazy emotions on both sides - Trump supporters and Trump haters. But his 4 years in office showed that he's not good at "presiding". He isn't good at winning in DC, and like it or not, that's where we (the Right) need to start winning.

When he wins the nomination, we will get behind him. Until then, we wait

Election is over a year away. I’m not one to give up in the first quarter so I’ll stick with DeSantis, thanks.

was, in fact, called a DEM (just like now) for calling him the worst.

I was called worse when I was critical of the “Big Nuts Bill” hiring and when referring to him as “Ruby Ridge”.

I was called the worst by both the good guys and Boosie when referred to Kavanaugh as a “Bushie”.

But here I am. Still a man of the people. You have a chance to be a man of the people too.

Trump did a great job running the country. I also blame the political establishment (my party included) for creating most of the problems this country faces. Voting Trump in the primary will both piss off Pay Ryan, and, I think Trump has a better chance of winning the whole shebang than Desantis. Conservatives like Desantis. There aren’t enough of us.

Don’t get your panties in a snit. If Desantis manages to win the primary, I would vote for him in the general. The point of the OP as I read it, is maybe base level republicans need to face reality. Trump is going to win the primary.

BC like it or not if the nominee is RDS, Trump’s hardest core base is staying home and neither RDS - nor any other Republican can win without them.

Baby steps. Small cuts. No one is going to balance the budget in one year. It will take a while. No one is saying this will happen over night.

What I do believe is Trump won't even make an attempt to control spending. Not his purview.

I think you completely whiffed on that recollection of events. I believe what she said was that she’d show her tits if Trump won. So now can we all get our heads out of our asses and cheer for Trump?? Whoever wouldn’t is obviously gay.

I kid, Wednesday. It comes from a place of respect and compliment.

No Bucky - that was probably you.

We will never agree on Trump v Desantis, but we agree on everything else. And have no fear - if it’s Ron v Potato, I’m RDS or bust.

How?

Trump won't have the money and he doesn't have to energy to campaign like he did in 2016 and 2020

Yes it probably is the difference. I firmly believe that our self interest motivates us the most. Ergo - the person who has the most to gain by winning, usually finds a way to win.

Cult45 doesn't outnumber the masses that would only vote to ensure Trump doesn't get in the WH again.

Trump is better than anyone at getting people to vote dem.

To be frank, this board is mainly southerners and outside of Georgia (where Trump will not win anyway) Cult45 sitting home will make little if any difference. I don't see many Trump only types here in WI and frankly he isn't all that popular. A lot of holding of noses went on in 2020.

And I do remember you agreeing women are too emotional so you supported the 19th going away.

Well if I couldn’t vote the PoliBoard would be a much less interesting place.

So I know you don’t want to see that happen
