With growth the Ponzi scheme is collapsing
Then the answer isn't 'Grow MOAR!!!' The answer is cancel the ponzi scheme that requires growth.

Agreed. So you two should choose to reproduce. Have a couple of kids.

It's one of those economic precepts that pretty much goes unchallenged.
With technological advancement at the pace it is (and has been), we would be fine if our population leveled off and even trended slowly downward.

If you don't have replacement rate, you will ultimately become like Europe and find yourself having to import workers to service the aging indigenous population or you could be Japan and have an a almost stagnant economy.
The increased value of labor argument does not mean things are necessarily good. If labor costs go up, the things being produced go up.

I’m not being snarky, but does that mean our economy can only function with infinite growth?
How is that realistic?
Yes. Capitalism requires infinite growth. People will defend it to the death but it simply isn't sustainable. The problem is we don't seem to have an idea of what we would replace it with. We know that collectivism doesn't work so we can rule that out.
I started a thread a while back about in the near future there will be a trusted AI and some important people are going to have the audacity to start asking it big questions about the nature of our economic models and what could be done to improve them. Capitalism won't last forever and anyone that thinks that is a fool. It might not be in my lifetime but it will be replaced eventually.

There’s nothing wrong with a declining population. And I don’t give a frick about the SS ponzi scheme
This is so simple-minded. The population doesn’t shrink evenly or in a vacuum. It does so through aging.
No, you do not want a nation of old people. Everything you buy, use, and consume requires ongoing replenishment of labor. If there are suddenly significantly less people, we have a small fraction supporting all the damn old people. The Asian nations are super fricked for this reason. Demand collapse is not something anyone should want.
That’s without tackling the elephant in the room which is the socialized retirement and SS and Medicare type liabilities.
There is no such think as just keeping the population at a predetermined arbitrary number while maintaining an increasing quality of life.

Population growth is the most enduring trait of our species, or any species really in a macro sense
We’re fricked the moment that plateaus and declines.

Please explain how the people who have been pouring into our country are increasing our quality of life. You think countries like Japan are fricked? I’ll raise you the UK and France. Now that’s what it means to be truly fricked.

Capitalism fails if the population collapses. It simply cannot absorb demand destruction. And we currently don't know if an economic model that can absorb demand destruction.

That’s part of it, but even without that, a reduction in workers would yield a lower GDP. And the GDP is proportional to our tax revenue. With lower tax revenues we would be unable to hold off the authoritarian countries and they would eventually come to dominate us. So your freedoms would be threatened by a declining population.
The unknown in all of this is technology. Perhaps productivity increases, due to tech (AI), outrun the GDP loss due to population declines. If so, we’re golden.

Less people but if we grow the size of the developed world that matters more.
