I've said all along. If Hunter (or any of those jackasses) had any sense, they would chill out, apologize, lay low, get help, etc... and make a big PR affair out of it later.
Such as "Hunter Biden is committing himself to the best rehab center in the USA, and is also renting a house in Little Rock to be present for his daughter Navy. In addition he is funding her college education and endowing a scholarship for children of substance abusers in Delaware and Arkansas." You'd buy a lot of sympathy from the voters with a move like this. Lots of us know a friend with a screw-up kid and we respect "do better".
Then just be absolutely as quiet as possible. Play golf, spend a lot of time out of the country, whatever it takes to stay way out of the headlines.
But he doesn't do it, and Joe doesn't make him, because they are arrogant SOB's that think the world owes them something new each day.

Owned by store owner
Yep.
After he left it for a certain amount of time, it was considered abandoned, and ownership reverted to the store owner. It was in the agreement he signed.

Why not? That strategy worked for Slick Willy and Hitlery.

How does Hunter explain all those raunchy photos on the computer of him and naked teenagers or of him smoking crack?

So, what’s the theory here? It’s all some massive deepfake operation?
No I think he's claiming it was more like the fappening with a tactile storage unit, and not a laptop left with the repairman.
However, discovery will be a fricking bitch for ole boy, so he may just be off the rails.

He either brought in laptops or drives that had water damage. The shop owner recovered the data, but Hunter never returned to retrieve the data or pay for the work. The property reverts to the store owner after 90 days per the agreement Hunter signed with the shop.

I'm sure that's where the "privacy" argument would come in.
Bee tee dubs, which of the multiple laptops that he lost is he saying didn't exist?

Computer fraud and abuse. Basically accessing and disseminating someone's private information stored in digital format. The "laptop" part is irrelevant. It was external drive, which Rudy has already said publicly.
Wrong! Store/shop policy clearly stated all items left over a certain time period become property of the shop.

Arrogance is the stupidity of otherwise smart people, but the Bidens aren't so smart to start with. They've just gotten away with so much crime that they think they are immune.

are Hunter's lawyers actually trying to spin the data being moved from damaged MacBooks to recovery storage as "there are no laptops"? This is worse that "all the earmarks of Russian disinformation".

Indeed. See above.
What y'all seem to be missing is he's arguing THAT laptop didn't contain the data and that the distribution of the contents still violates the state and federal anti-hacking laws he cites.
quote:
Giuliani and Costello have openly acknowledged that they obtained copies of files from a hard drive device that Biden allegedly left at a Delaware computer repair shop in 2019
Again, the hard drive allegedly contained the data but not necessarily the laptop itself. There is a potential huge chain of custody/authentication issues as it relates to the laptop itself. If you read the suit, the data was manipulated by the Defendants to make forensic analysis impossible. Anything not directly from that laptop created by the store is potentially an illegal invasion of privacy.
Now, for the emotional-irrational smoothbrains, an argument doesn't necessarily mean it's reality/the truth.

I'm not overly familiar with the computer fraud and abuse statutes, so I have no opinion on the validity of the claims.
But, just because the shop assumed ownership of the hard drive, that does not mean the shop owns the data stored on that hard drive. Just like you don't own most of the software stored on your devices, or the various media you download from the internet.
It looks like Hunter agreed to hold the Shop harmless got any damages, but that doesn't extend to third parties.
He may very well be able to claim Rudy violated the data act by accessing and disseminating the files on the drive. I don't really know how the statutes have been interpreted.

They're arguing, truthfully, that Giuliani never accessed the laptop and only had access to an external drive.
This does make me curious where the original laptop is, these days.

Hunter identifies as Jedi now.
(Since apparently ANYONE can in Disney Star Wars current day)

I imagine this is going to be the big issue. Just because the store owns the laptop doesn't mean Rudy can disseminate the data.
