How would Trump have fared if he was president 40 years ago?

Age is a big thing in politics. Would Trump have righted the ship that is America if he was president after Reagan?

He was a democrat back then. But back then that didn’t automatically mean you were a loon.

I’m not old enough to know about politics from Bush 1 and older, but he wouldn’t have dealt with the same level of bullshite that is out there now.
Social media and the like have given everyone and anyone a voice that isn’t necessarily needed or wanted.
40 years ago, Senators and Congressmen also were living most of the time in DC. You didn’t have the amount of jets available to be part time in DC during the week. People lived and worked with each other and found ways to coexist. It’s a lot easier now to denigrate someone when you don’t have to actually work with them.

Read the art of the deal. He was a deal maker. 40 years ago, before CSPAN, all politicians were open to dealmaking.

Probably not too good - he is right for this moment. Things were too stable back then. He is a "war time" President.

trump on his own, no, i doubt it, men like trump is a definite yes though.
trump only came to be because of the rampant out of control spending and uniparty corruption.
now someone who strong enough and independent enough to think like we do and say what we are thinking as well, a candidate like that would definitely have massive voter support.
but just look at who we got to vote for since. the bushes, mccain, romney, those are who the GOPe chose to allow to be on the ballots come election time.

Those same commie bastards tried to give Reagan hell all the time, but he was a polished speaker and turned it around on them. He used humor as a weapon and held numerous press conferences to take his case directly to the American people.
Trump isn’t Reagan but his directness has a certain appeal. If he can quit getting into pissing matches with pissants and use his humor as a weapon he can win again.
The only real difference forty years ago is that some of the media still believed they should report the truth.
