If you'd like to create a thread about how dumb the democratic party is, there is plenty of subject matter. You'll find a button up at the top that says "Start Topic" which will allow you to do so. This thread is about change in the conservative movement.
If, instead, you're constructing a dumb fricking straw man you can get fricked.

Charles Sykes . Newsweek. Sweater vest Republicans. You have to try harder than this. Was David Brooks unavailable?
Establishment Republicans can’t govern. Establishment Republicans refuse to oppose Progressivism. Establishment Republicans have abandoned the working class . That’s why the fell out of favor with the Conservative base . Because they earned the derision. And Trump heard the base , brought in the apolitical working class on economic issues and won. And now Establishment Republicans have to deal with it . That’s how elections work .

quote:Yea, there are about 10-20 posters who are determined to jump in and derail every thread.
When, I read this article I thought about the decent conservative posters here who, while I disagreed with them, weren't the sad, sycophantic hacks we see here today.
As for the death of civility, some of the extreme policies like Buckley's pledge and the D's inability to debate (death panels) ultimately ended in the absurd boycott of Garland that led to Trump's greatest accomplishment.

You should go smash some windows and steal some off-brand electronics in protest. Cause it's the right that has lost its mind.

why a buffoon?
Because that Buffoon just demonstrated that you have to leave no prisoners alive when you're a conservative running against the GOPe, democrats and the media.
The GOP trier nice guy for two straight elections and got their teeth kicked in by demagoging democrats.
And the GOPe, most particularly in the senate has demonstrated that they are not willing to work in good faith with someone who's willing to sign anything as far as healthcare goes.
Trump gave them a blank check and they just ripped it apart. You just can't help pettiness after that.

Why not Rand?
I like Rand. Even voted for him in the primaries after he dropped out.
And I can say that does not and will never have the resolve, intensity and determination that it takes to not just withstand the slander but fight back as hard as you can like Trump did. Rand would've been very easy to pigeonhole imo and we've would seen a repeat of Goldwater with twice the electoral votes.

limited government
The GOPe funded Obamacare in every CR since it's first passage. Limited government? Really?
The GOPe are big fans of Common Core. That's federal education rules, not local. Limited government? fricking really?
The GOPe are for open borders for cheap labor and growing welfare roles. Limited government? Really?
The GOPe is turned the treaty powers on its head so they can vote no and cover their arse to pass the Iran deal...looking at you Corker.

such as economic freedom
The GOPe tried to pass trade deals like TPP which abdicate American sovereignty to some far away Pacific commission passing laws that say abide by this or get fined or leave the trade deal.

Look. I want to believe that is correct because the alternative is truly shitty. I'd argue that the fact that Trump won on his personality makes things worse.

I get the motivation to burn the GOPe down and I get that Trump was a protest vote for many, damn the consequences, but why a buffoon? Why not Rand? Why not someone who actually has something to say? Sykes thinks its the result of the alternative reality bubble that appeals to emotion and outrage as opposed to intellect and now its beyond control.
Is this bargaining? 10 months to get here

Trump won because of the backlash toward PC culture, it's that simple.
The left is going through it's moral majority moment. The right is as disorganized as it's ever been, but that's the nature of being on the "right."

For starters, the party needed to change. It has never been controlled by real conservatives.
The tea party movement was the first time real conservative candidates saw success across the board.
The rejection of Luther Strange showed that, A) Trump is not the leader of this movement and B) Republicans are tired of the establishment
Spot on.
The only thing I'll add to this is that if Republicans had chosen anyone other than Trump to run against Clinton then it really would have been Her turn. Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, and Red Cruz weren't strong enough to defeat her. Trump was the only candidate we had that was strong enough to beat her and he beat her in a landslide.

You were one of the reasonable posters turned sycophant I referenced in the OP. A damn shame.
