re: How much longer until the MS flag is replaced?

So what if the new flag is divisive....? What if I decide it offends me?
Then make it a solid, blank field. The whole point being that the flag HAS to represent everyone under it. Just print MISSISSIPPI in block letters, for all I care. Let each resident have a flag in their choice of colors. Who cares? Just get rid of the problem. There's too many other important issues in our broke-assed state.

I just think it's ironic that many people who will push for the flags' replacement are outsiders,
Quite the contrary, actually. Go look at the money that poured in from outside MS in support of the Save the Flag side.

My point is clear. you are full of shite. The flag does not exclude any person.
My point is clear.. it's a symbol of unification.

Why was it changed to stars and bars 30 years after the end of the war?
He says that the Battle Flag pre-dates the Confederacy. No. It was designed by PT Beauregard DURING the Civil War.
He says that the Bonnie Blue Flag was the state flag of Mississippi during the Confederacy. No. It was briefly adopted again (it was formerly the national flag of West Florida) after Secession and BEFORE joining the Confederacy. The first version of the Magnolia Flag was adopted before Mississippi joined the Confederacy, and the Magnolia Flag was the official flag during the entire War and some version of it remained the official flag for 30 years thereafter.

Never understood people’s infatuation with the battle flag? What purpose does it serve in today’s world? I was an extremely prideful southerner in my time living out west and never backed down of being proud of where I am from, especially in uncultured McCondoville known as downtown Denver. Having said that, the idea of flying a battle flag in any shape way or form from the confederacy has ever crossed my mind. Anybody have a solid reason to fly it?

I don't think flying the flag has that intention. To me it is more of a butt hurt stance.
Really, so the "confed" flag mixed with the "Union Bars" mean Continued hope of enslaving people?

Exactly. I particularly like the people telling me about the South as I work the same MS farmland that my ancestors have worked for generations.
I get it, both sides, trust me. I get it.

The Bonnie Blue Flag was an unofficial banner of the Confederate States of America at the start of the American Civil War in 1861.
Before that it was the flag of the ill-fated West Florida Republic.

Maybe, maybe not. I would attribute the 1960’s as more of a reason the battle flag gets people pissed off more than the civil war. Google image any school integration protest from the time and honestly anything Birmingham civil rights to see where the angst comes from. Hooded fricks hiding behind their veils with a battle flag and noose hanging out of their car for intimidation purposes. I have way too many racist arse hole relatives from the MS delta to Philadelphia MS and I’d never want anybody to confuse me with the bull shite the are a part of.
ETA: my perspective - I have a MS birth certificate and lived there my first decade of life. Now I am a frequent visitor of the state.

If that were the case then you would have said the Jackson/Metro area or the NW MS/ Memphis area instead

I can get behind this rationale. Also, it just looks cool, connotations aside. I'd be cool with folks just saying any of those two things other than the bullshite "heritage" nonsense. So much more to the South than just Confederate apologetics (and I say that as someone born in the south and lived mostly in the South and in TX).

That is an odd description. The residents of that region seceded from Spanish Florida and BRIEFLY formed an independent nation, with the full intent of being promptly annexed by the USA ... which happened a couple of months later.

I grew up in the 90s and vividly remember people with shirts saying, "The south will rise again"
It was so prevalent that I thought it was normal. You grow; you learn. Some of us anyway.

Go to a Slidell Mardi gras parade.
Nearly every cart before the parade offers rebel flags for purchase.
