It’s been their official state flag for 18 whole years. Can’t just throw away a tradition like that.
I thought it had been the pattern since 1895?

There was a referendum in 2001 (18 years ago) to CHANGE the flag, but it FAILED.

We all remember the MLB All Star game threatening to pull out of Phoenix because of border politics, and we all remember the ncaa boycotting South Carolina because of their confederate Jack over their capitol, and we all remember the ncaa boycotting North Carolina because of bathroom laws. This funniest part of the Mississippi flag thing is that that flag flies to this day for the most part because the state of Mississippi has nothing to boycott.

Well, of course. It's all about the bottom line- always. I don't believe for a minute MLB or the NCAA would abandon (for example) Texas because there are confederate statues there.

Do you feel the same way about people who get "triggered" over a protest involving the desecration of a US flag?

Why would you? It is just a piece of cloth, after all.

I am no leftist but I hate seeing people fly that flag or wearing confederate shirts and hats. It goes beyond screaming redneck to straight white trash.

I think it is stupid to remove statues as they should be a reminder of our history but flying that flag has a entire different meaning(to me) and I'm a 47 yr old conservative white man born and raised in Alabama.

Hardly...

I'm actually right on most issues.

The symbol is one that represents treason and failure. Also, the flag represents an institution with purpose of enslaving and stripping the rights of 37% of its United States citizens.

If you don't believe the above statement then simply read the opening paragraphs of Mississippi's letter of secession in 1861.

But that battle flag represents the Confederacy, i.e. those four years.

Why should it be on a state flag then?

1- It was there PRIOR to the Civil war...

2- Why should we not remember the time when people fought against brothers and cousins and what the nation went through to become what we are today.

3- Why "force" a division over something that's long gone...

Maybe educate yourself on the flags.

The flag of MS during the Civil war was this:

After that flag.. The first official flag of Mississippi was known as the Magnolia Flag. It was the official flag of the state from 1861 until 1865. It remained in use as an unofficial flag until 1894.

SO their "Civil war" flag was this.

Personally, I believe Democrats are preoccupied with statues and flags, because they are trying to bury the Democrat's past support for slavery.

That's probably Trump's take too.

Me? I represent myself.

That is bs. And I mean the runny BS.

That flag does NOT EXCLUDE any person. You are full of shite.

In fact, that flag is a symbol of unification of the the nation.

The CSA and the USA...

Try again.

What's your fricking point?

Why was it changed to stars and bars 30 years after the end of the war?

I don't think flying the flag has that intention. To me it is more of a butt hurt stance.

I referenced the Confederate States of America ( four years)
What does pre-Civil War have to do with anything?

We should absolutely remember and commemorate the Civil War. My family goes though the park at Vicksburg every year. It doesn't change my mind about the state flag

It's a beautiful flag design.
The Stars and Bars is a cool flag design. The Battle Flag is a cool flag design. The Mississippi flag is just too "busy."

In flag design, clean and simple is better.

Regarding statues? No. Those only represent a moment in history. It happened, can't pretend it didn't.

The flag is a symbol of the state and is on everything officially represented by the state. It shouldn't be divisive
Well-reasoned position. Kudos.
