Realistically speaking, it's coming down soon, but I'm unsure how much longer it will take.

I'll go with 2 years from the next Amendments election cycle.

What say ye?

Not soon enough. Ideological issues aside, it's just freakin' butt-ugly.

I was driving through Mississippi last week on my way to Petit Jean State Park and saw the flag on a welcome center and thought the same thing.

Looks like something that should be hanging on some 16 yr old's wall in his mom's single wide.

It's been time. There's no justification really.

The fact that it still flies to represent the state today is pathetic.

Folks will (still) fly it for years to come and even more so after it's abolished, but it's time to retire it along with the Confederacy (130 years later).

Beautiful flag. Why would you want to retire that?

Mississippi should create a new version of the Magnolia Flag or go with the Bonnie Blue. They're more traditional anyway.

The current flag is almost a caricature of itself.

No, it should be replaced for the reason I expressed.

Please tell me a legitimate purpose for keeping the flag?

For what the flag represents...a state clinging to the Confederacy. There is no other reason to maintain it.

It’s shameful that they’re even discussing changing it. It’s been their official state flag for 18 whole years. Can’t just throw away a tradition like that.

You aren’t even from Mississippi and you don’t live there, so why does it matter to you?
